Sarnia Sting 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part II

One of their worst losses of the year. Playing a non playoff team who beat u recently & they choke a 3-1 lead.

Brown after the 1st said in his interview the key to this game was playing a strong 60 & not letting their foot off the gas like they did last time. They did exactly what he said they couldn't do.

Super frustrating to see. What should've been a great weekend getting 3/4 they get 2/4 & in each game they led by 2. It's points like this that come back to haunt you at the end for where you finish & play.

PK has been unreal under Matsos but tonight it was horrific. 3PPGA vs a unit that hasn't been good. It lacked the urgency/desperation it's been playing with.

Bright spots:
Di Iorio and Manza 3 points each. That line was unreal.

Maillet was really strong again. Way to many breakdowns tonight & he bailed them out a ton.

Another goal from the backend which has been happening a lot lately.

A late PPG to get themselves a point. Although they then wasted 45 seconds of a 4on3 doing a bunch of nothing. Idk what Jeffrey's drew up but good god it sucked.

Managed to get a PT, but it should've been 2. First 3in3 in awhile next week. Gotta be ready for it!

Letang played line 1 way too much no jam tonight and beamish had weaker night in circle, wasn't his usual night tonight and kept playing that line while Edward's karimov played 4 shifts in 3rd.
Major choke job, at end of Day Letang burned bunch of players in the 3rd looked like they lost their legs in 3rd and out coached in owen sound yet again. Those are 2 points that come back at end of year. Get 1 from Windsor was a win only get 1 from owen sound is huge loss.

WT. was that 3rd period ?
A super young team taking a game for granted would be my guess.

They haven't played that lazy/slow/lackadaisical in a period since that 2-18 stretch. Was pretty brutal to watch.

If Surzycia is sick maybe some of the other guys are too and that could explain it. If not just a really poor final 20 from the team.

Some of the credit goes to the youngest team in the league...no quit in them
They definitely get credit for not accepting defeat, but anytime your up 2 vs a young team that likely isn't gonna make the playoffs you have to close it out.

Those first 10-12 minutes Sarnia wasn't skating at all. OS was doing circles around them.

Mbuyi is a stud! Gonna be one helluva player.

Getting 2/4 on the weekend stinks (funny enough would've been my prediction going in for points), but sure was nice to see back2back strong games from Maillet.

And he was tested. 35/39 vs WSR & 38/42 vs OS. He made 5or6 pretty remarkable saves on the weekend.

Taking out the 9GA game in Saginaw he's 4-5-2 with a 0.892 sv% in 11 starts. While that isn't elite, that puts him right with Surzycia & only a couple "points" back of guys like Ivankovic, Leenders, George, Oster who all have .900.

In his last 6 starts he has a 0.902 sv%.

He has certainly earned more starts going forward & gives you a bit more confidence about their goaltending going into next year. Although still has more to prove to say he's a starting caliber goalie

Debated if it was to early for such a post, but what the hell.

23 games left for SAR, FLT, SSM. We sit 1 back of FLT for 6th & are 2 up on SSM for 7th.

5th is looking unlikely. 6 back now of both ER&SAG & they both have a game in hand (ER has 2). So unless 1 really stumbles gonna be hard.

Top-3 is looking more & more locked in with LDN 1st, WSR 2nd, KIT 3rd unless LDN stumbles which seems unlikely.

So the goal is definitely to stay away from the 8 seed & a meeting with London lol.. Not that they'd beat KIT or WSR, but I think they'd hang in there better & maybe win a game, or two.

Remaining schedule:

Flint: 12 home / 11 away
Home to - KIT, KGN, SBY, GUE, NB, WSR, SAR, SAG, BRNT, SAR, SSM, SAG
Away - WSR, PBO, KGN, OTT, LDN, ER, GUE, ER, OS, SAR, SAG

Sarnia: 13 home / 10 away
Home to - ER, KGN, PBO, GUE, SSM, SAG, WSR, NB, GUE, LDN, ER, SSM, FLT
Away - GUE, WSR, WSR, FLT, KIT, GUE, FLT, BAR, WSR, SSM

SSM: 12 home / 11 away
Home to - KIT, BRNT, SAG, GUE, OS, NB, SBY, BRMP, BAR, OSH, SAG, SAR
Away - SAG, NB, BAR, OSH, LDN, SAR, BRNT, WSR, SAR, FLT, SBY

Games against teams they are ahead of not counting each other since it's so tight:
FLT - 6
SAR - 6
SSM - 4

Games vs elite (top 5 on either side) teams:
FLT - 12
SAR - 11
SSM - 12

I think it's rather ridiculous the team hasn't made a single statement on Kostuch other than he was back home around Christmas. I get it for other things, but with such a scary injury it feels unnecessary to keep the fans completely in the dark on how the kid is doing.

In saying that I talked to someone who usually is good for info & he said the plan is for him for return before seasons end. Also said from what he's gathered they are hopeful he avoided permanent eye damage.

Can't say this is 100% concrete, but usually this guy is spot on. If so this is awesome to hear. For the team, but more importantly a young kid.

Hopefully things keep trending well. Be a helluva boost to the team to get him back for the stretch run!

They did post a picture on social media when he was back at the rink too. It would be nice to have a little more info but we do have to remember that this is a 17 year old kid with a scary injury. They were likely trying to protect him during a difficult time.

It's awesome to hear that they're hopeful he's avoided permanent damage! He has to be 100% if they're going to play him. If even the slightest thing feels off then he shouldn't be playing. His long-term health is far more important than hockey

Definitely. Just feel like if he's back with the team (at least hanging around them) they should put some sorta statement out. Doesn't gotta be point-blank what's going on, but something would be nice.

Yah if he's gotta sit out the season to get as healthy as he can be they gotta do it for him.

I didn't realize Ryan Suzuki had a similar injury while in the OHL. He had to sit out 2.5 months before playing again. He has a blind spot looking straight but can see fine to the sides. Making his NHL debut tonight.
