Sarnia Sting 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part II

I imagine Sarnia is done with the deadline passed.

Would I have been happy with getting x2 2nds, x2 3rds for Young? Definitely, but who knows if that was offered for him. The other D who got dealt were more physical, stay at home type guys which playoff teams value.

They come away

Trading- Johnston, Kapageridis, Chartier, 2027 2nd, 2027 4th, 2028 4th

Adding- Manza, Gaulton, 2025 2nd, 2027 3rd, 2025 8th, 2025 10th

Stellar deadline? Nope, but I'm happy with it (if Manza is here for more than this season).. I like how they went after 2025 picks. Giving them a strong cupboard for this year. 19 picks in total. 10 in the first 8 rounds, 6 in the first 5 rounds including two 2nds.

If Manza can be a somewhat productive player they will have bettered their roster while adding an immediate 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th.

we talk all the time about amassing picks ,but with those picks the guys that spend their winters driving to endless games and tourneys have to do a better job at the 5th,6th 7th rounds . Trevor Letowski came to us at 114 overall, these kinds of draft picks are what separate good from average teams. its going to be harder on gm's not knowing how long a kid is wanting to stay with a particular team , OHL or NCAA, so these 4 yr plans are suspect . it does make it exciting to know that maybe a team could vault up in overall quality in 2 years with a little luck , good timing, rather than NHL team 5-6 rebuilding years

I’m sure they just trade young and Fischer next year to load up for 2026/27 they’ll get big packages out of both I assume. Maybe they look to trade young in off season if they get the right value for him

Surzycia starts Chamberlain and Bodin are back in. No Manza still not listed on our roster yet either.

Dont understand starting Surzycia. If they turn & give Maillet the tough road game in Erie tomorrow i'll be beyond confused, but if he doesn't start at all I'll be very annoyed. Nice to see Chamberlain back after missing over 2 months. He was really finding his footing before suffering whatever injury he got. Was low-key a good contributor to the PK.

Surprised it's taken this long with Manza, but maybe taking a little time to get him over from BC. Was hoping we'd see him tonight, but least now he'll get some practice in before the lone game next week vs a team who is going for it out of nowhere in Sudbury.

Letang is terrible with goalie management.

Trying to win all games they can against weaker competition in order to try and make playoffs. I think they should tank for a high pick as playoffs would mean a quick 4 and out. Not much to learn for the young guys in that at all

No huge moves from the Buzz which makes me think Buzz management thinks they can be somewhat good next year. I still dont know what the point was in trading for Johnson. Bad look to give up a 4th to get him and then get a 10th back for him later.... Buzz basically gave him away. At least this clears room for Karimov. I like them holding onto Fischer.

Solid 1st, bit sloppy, but definitely controlled the play. Not sure they allowed 2 scoring chances. Hated that goal for Surzycia. Terrific response tho! Immediate tying goal from line 1 & then what a fricken shot by Di Iorio! He must've broke the puck as they had to change it after the goal!

Nice little pick play by Luecke on 17s goal too. Bought him some extra space to really lean into his shot.

Even better tho is Kostuch is at the game! Love to see it & love that he gets back around his friends, teammates. Hope his recovery is going well.

Should've started Maillet solely because it's logical & now Surzycia is having an absolute stinker.

Honestly not sure he's made 1 legitimately good save tonight.

Unreal they are down 4-2. Have had the puck the entire game. Obnoxious.

Johnston became an absolutely liability. He came in run and gun london style to a defensive coach
Johnston was set up to fail isn't that type of player didn't accept his role here so he"s gone
Simple 10th round was best we could get obviously happy to see him go just disrupted flow

I don't necessarily agree that London is a run and gun style. Even though I heard Johnson wasn't liked in LDN I bet it was a huge change coming from Hunter to Letang. Talk about a massive downgrade. But yah happy he's gone tho.

Been an off night from Surzycia but the defence didn't help on the 2nd or 4th goal. Fischer and Young get caught too deep and then didn't get back to help out Chamberlain. Then on the fourth goal, Hurt makes turns it over at the offensive blueline and then leaves a huge gap in the middle of the ice for the OS player to go through. These are the types of games that come back to bite you in the butt at the end of the year

oof what an awful 2nd. If buzz were to get this game and Flint loses they would by tied with them at 37 pts... Pretty bad game to lose here...

For sure, but you'd love a single big save tonight. Hard to be mad with how great he's been, but very annoying that every decent look they've had tonight has gone in.

Just pure ineptitude from Letang. Wasn't a more perfect spot to give Maillet.

Giant piss off of a game. Completely controlled the 1st, 2nd & final 10 of the 3rd. OS scored on almost every decent look they had all night. Not sure Sarnia's had a game all yr with less Grade A chances against. Not saying they played an unreal game, but when you give up that little you sure do expect to win.

Been rare, but Surzycia was atrocious tonight. Even his saves looked very shaky.

Completely putting it on Letang. Was so goddamn obvious who should've started this game. Now what do you do? Put the ice cold rookie in @ Erie, a tough building to win in or ice him even more by going back to the vet? Utter ineptitude.

A huge loss in the standings too. They can't afford losses vs PBO OS GUE NB etc. and now they play ER SBY WSR. 3 teams better than them.

Very frustrating night.

The positives, Line 1 continues to rack up points, Di Iorio was a beast tonight. Helluva shot on his goal. Liked Luecke's game again. Edwards didn't score, but had 3or4 good chances. Thought this was Bodin's best game probably since October.

Huge coaching errors in this one, just line management. Fischer out too much especially in offensive roles its frustrating Letang thinks that's his strength.
Dumb.
Surzycia was below average tonight why was he even in game like come on Letang 10 in a row, should have been mailett but on other hand thought Fischer was average too. Wasn't his best. Disappointing result and 2nd and 3rd period was not good except last 8mins Was O'brien's worst puck moving game by far as well wasn't moving it as quick as was even last week. Might be having those, time will tell letang bad habits creeping into his game. We sure to hell hope it's not.
Can't wait to See how tomorrow goes now after that game.

Should add that you would love to see the boys pick Surzycia up though. He's bailed them out so much this year you really would've liked to see them muster up 4-5 goals to "bail" him out tonight when he didn't have his A game.

Also cool for Sarnia native Landon Hookey to get the C in OS & have his first game with it be in his hometown! Carved out a solid OHL career for himself.

He’s committed to Ohio State University for the 2025-26 season, but Seca expects him back on the Sting.

“If he doesn’t play in September, then we don’t lose all the picks,” the GM said. “But the intention of this deal is for him to be here for more than just the rest of this season”

Quote from the observer. Will say I'd prefer him say it with absolute certainty haha, but seems like Manza will be here for more than this season.

He also said they are very high on the 2025 draft & they made it a point to try and get more picks in it.
