Georgiev is a UFA after this season. He was acquired as a low risk rehabilitation project. He's operating as a tank commander. Askarov will get some starts this year and will be on the Sharks next year and get a lot more starts.

People forget that the Sharks scored 181 goals and gave up 331 goals last year for -150 difference. This year after 38 games the Sharks are 104 goals and 139 goals allowed. That projects to 224 goals for and 300 goals allowed which would be a -76.

With Schaefer's injury he might be available at 2 or 3.

you were certain before until proven wrong....seems credible. Leaf Kool-aid for everyone!!! This dude's buying!^^^ If you drink enough you can be just like the Leafs!.....

I wasn't proven wrong though? I mean, it is all very easily verifiable facts. I suppose rebuilding teams trade their unprotected firsts several years in a row in an attempt to compete eh?

Yeah, you were proven wrong. You claimed the season leading up to the Leafs drafting Marner, they held a playoff spot in March. A “very easily verifiable fact”, one that you got wrong.

Hate to break it to you, but arguments lose credibility when the facts used to support them are wrong.

But...you were wrong lol. It's okay to say so. You tried to make a point and belittle other fanbases and kinda fell on your face. Don't make it worse now by back peddling and throwing odd end shit at the wall to see what sticks....humility is okay, both our teams have won the same amount....if the Sabres started again tomorrow I'm sure that statement would still be true in 45+ years so neither of us have a pedestal to stand on.....cheers!

Sharks should only have another free pass to purposely tank this season. Doing so next season as well is just playing with fire.

Funny how in this thread the suggestion of tanking gets this response, that their goal is to become Buffalo, but in other threads teams should tank more...

Fans want their teams to tank if they are not making the playoffs naturally. Get the best player you can to salvage something from the year.

But it's proven to not be a good idea by other teams.

Some fans/teams have a thing called pride.
Drafting the best player(s) for your team does not always have to involve organized sabotage.

I was thinking about the same similarity the other day.

Sharks with Blackwood in net most nights at least got a fighting chance but after the trade with Georgiev in net you can be sure he lets in couple of soft goals in the worst possible time.
When you get outgoalied 100 percent of the time it's very hard to win games , especially for a rebuilding team.
Two things though:

1. Georgiev is never going to get 100% of the starts.
2. I'm shaking at the thought of struggling to win games guaranteeing us no worse than the 4th best pick in this year's draft.

Sharks still need more impact players.

Georgie is not someone I'd want around young kids in the locker room. Especially with how poorly he's playing. Avs have gotten something like .93 hockey out of their new goalies, Georgie posts a .87 behind the same team. He's got an aura around him that should be ran away from.
Life is sometimes cruel like that. But we had a team full of guys like that last year and our reward for that was Celebrini and a chance to still win the #1 pick again this year. Georgiev will only be here until the end of this season at worst. We'll live.

My wish would be that since Vanacek's return date from injury is totally unknown (fractured cheeck while sitting on the bench), why not give Askarov the lion's share of the starts and treat it as a 1/2 goalie situation and see how he does? Zero reason to do a 1A/1B type of sharing of starts - Sharks are already in last place and even with Askarov starting, they're still going to lose most games. But I suspect we're gonna alternate goalies anyway.

The Sharks have a fantastic stock of young talent, but at this stage they are still making quite a few rookie mistakes. So this is basically a learning year, even if very frustrating to the players. Next season they can bring in some more Cup-pedigree players to install the proper attitude and also get a real goalie, and it would not surprise me at all if they make the playoffs.
Problem is, most of it is a couple years away at best from being on the roster and we already have our long-term goalie in Askarov. We'll need a vet to pair with him next year as our other goalies are all UFA's.
