No, really, I'm not kidding when I say this is for a friend. It's @BigFatCat999, who's getting his revenge on me for accidentally killing his laptop on the surgical table* by making me post this for him. :D

He came up with the proposal; I'm the one writing up the raitonales.

To Nashville:
Ryan Merkley, SJS 1st

To San Jose:
Dante Fabbro, NSH 1st

Why Nashville would go for it:
It's kind of obvious on its face. The Preds are in a bit of a cap crunch and could use the flexibility under the cap. Also, c'mon, draft pick upgrade. It's pretty obvious.

Why San Jose would go for it:
This depends on whether or not one believes the Sharks' current state is something that can be salvaged and turned into something competitive. If one thinks that San Jose is able to rebound, or wants a good roster player, then this is a bit of a trade down within the top-10 (and moving a prospect out) for a guy who's frankly getting f***ed over by Hynes. RD appears to be a position of need on the roster (on casual glance), so maybe that might be a fit? Maybe?

Why Nashville wouldn't go for it:
Um. Fabbro's actually a pretty good defenseman and the team should probably instead be firing Hynes and... yeah, I got nothin'.

Why San Jose wouldn't go for it:
Top 4 pick.
That's it. That's the counterargument. :D

Personally, I don't think it'd work (and I told him as much). But I'm posting this at literal gunpoint**, so... comments?

* replacement parts are arriving in a day or three
** it's my own nerf gun

Merkley and “something” was a valid idea perhaps, but that something can’t be a good shot at Bedard.

Ironically it’s not that much of a stretch to imagine the Preds falling below the Sharks in the standings. But the Sharks can’t take that gamble.

I don’t have any good ideas for what “something” could be either. I don’t want just a 2nd but that’s probably not unreasonable? I just don’t want Merkley, period, and don’t want to trade Fabbro, though.

A top 4 lottery pick with Bedard? is your friend high?

Tell him Nashville trades their 1st round pick + 2024, and 2025 1st, Askarov, Kemell and Svechkov for San jose's 1st this year. Furthermore they need to trade us Juuso Parssinen and Fabbro for Couture and Vlasic, and we retain no Salary.

That's how interested I am in trading this 1st rounder.

Yeah sorry, there's no asset the Predators can offer for which I would trade the 2023 1st. The Sharks are rebuilding and need that top-5 pick really badly.
