Michalek has negative value. His actual salary, not cap hit, is ~$6mil. Havlat's is probably more negative, but they are both negative. The SJ advantage in a Havlat-Michalek swap is more in removing one year of contract term.Yep. Getting Michalek shouldn't be too bad given his lack of production this year, cap hit and that he is a UFA next year. Havlat, however, has negative value. Only way someone takes him is if:
1. We bundle Havlat with a good ELC/RFA like Nieto, Wingels, etc and get a decent player back.
2. A one-for-one swap with the player coming back is buried and/or has negative value.
It will be interesting to see Michalek's next contract amount.
