Speculation: San Jose a possible destination for Milan Michalek

What we need is a healthy team, DW manages to luck out with a stacked Sharks team only to have glass man be out with the Spanish flu for most of the season. Getting Milan w/o getting rid of Havlat doesn't do anything for their Achilles heel.

We can get a Czech line of...
Havlat-Hertl-Michalek

A canadian line of...
Marleau-Thornton-Couture

And an American Line of...
Wingles-Pavelski-Nieto

Down. Put Burns on D. I love him on forward too, just wanted to make it work for the national lines hahaha.

On the one hand, you prefer Michalek due to contract, and increased actual productivity.

On the other side, Havlat's upside is tantalizing. When healthy, the guy is a dynamic player with a history of playoff performance. He gives the team versatility and bite. However, it does look like the ship has sailed...Havlat is simply not the same player he was even 1.5 years ago.

I'd move Havlat for Michalek for the cap space alone. I would take Nieto over Havlat in a top 9 role, leaving Havlat on the 4th line ($5M on the 4th line!)

When everyone comes back, I see the lineup as this:

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; BONUSES: $1,015,833
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,114,167

That's a pretty fast and deep line up. If Michalek doesn't work out, then we rotate one of Shep or Brown (hopefully Shep).

The tricky part will be for Doug to unload Irwin and Kennedy for a LHD man under $2M (suggestions?).

Also, I'd be fine with moving Tennyson for a LHD since I don't see him displacing Braun/Demers/Boyle in the upcoming season(s), and I think it would be a better use of our assets to round out our d-core now. Not trying to mortgage the future, I just think we have a shot this year and would like a bit stronger D from the left side.
