I was watching Sportsnet today and they were talking about how Michalek hasn't been producing and how he's in the final year of his contract. They were speculating, saying that possible destinations for him are: Vancouver, San Jose, St.Louis, Montreal or New York Islanders.

I couldn't find this anywhere online so I just recorded it on my phone and uploaded it to YouTube so I could show you guys so I apologize for the quality of the video but I figured it would be a good topic for speculation.

Would you guys want him back here? Right now I think I would but I don't know what we'd have to move for him though. What do you guys think the Sens would ask for?

I personally would not mind seeing him return, however, I don't think there's room on the IR for him at the moment.

:D

it would be nice to bring him back, buy why would you if he's not producing? might as well give cheech a call too then.

If it's straight up for Martin Havlat then it would make sense.

That may work, if Marty still thinks well of the Sens and vice versa. I know there is a lot of good sentiment for him over there. I'm not sure what type of forwards the Sens are in need of, but I could see him succeeding over there more than with us with his play style.

3 way trade

sharks trade havlat to ottawa
ottawa trades michalek to edmonton
edmonton trades hall to san jose.

thats a win win win situation isn't? 3 injury prone players all being swapped.

Havlat presumably has negative value because of his lack of production, 14-15 contract year, and reasonably hefty cap hit. So to make a Havlat->Michalek swap the Sharks would have to give the Sens the "rental fee" of Michalek plus additional cost to motivate Ottawa to take on Havlat's contract for this season and next.

Or at least this season and buying him out after.

I'd be really surprised if anybody took Havlat off our hands, let alone for another roster player

Yep. Getting Michalek shouldn't be too bad given his lack of production this year, cap hit and that he is a UFA next year. Havlat, however, has negative value. Only way someone takes him is if:

1. We bundle Havlat with a good ELC/RFA like Nieto, Wingels, etc and get a decent player back.
2. A one-for-one swap with the player coming back is buried and/or has negative value.

And seeing as Ottawa is a 'budget' team I can't see anything w/i reason that could get them to take on Havlat.

They'd pretty easily get a draft pick and a prospect from someone for Michalek which would be a much better return for them.

Michalek-Hertl-Havlat
Torres-Desi-Sheppard

Havlat scenarios-

Healthy scratched till summer guaranteeing a buy-out. Highly unlikely though

Gets healthy soon, plays some games before the break and is traded having some value. How much are the Sharks willing to retain in Salary if trying to ship out Glass Man? I'd be happy if they could keep 50%, save 2.5mil and gain a possible contract spot. That 2.5mil would probably be Wingels new deal. $$ well spent imo.

Sharks' brass plays him exclusively on the 4th line forcing Marty to ask for a trade.

Plays out his contract as a Shark being oft-injured and contributing very little for 5m.

I wouldn't trade him and retain salary, that precludes buying him out then and we are stuck with it. I'd rather ride out this season if we had to and buy him out than do that.

Remember Havlat is capable of injuring himself on a excersize bicycle.:laugh::laugh::laugh: ...then....

Keep Havlat out of action until the summer so he can be bought out.

Havlat fractures hand when he grips the pen improperly while attempting to sign his buyout agreement. Buyout nullified.
