News Article: Sam Rosen To Retire After Next Season

I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if my dumb idea isn't even original.

Have someone go through the game tapes and find the best Sam Rosen "It's a Power Play goal" call ever. Then next season whenever the Rangers score a PPG at the Garden, that plays instead of the goal song.

March 9 and or March 15 any chance John Davidson gets back on the mic with Sam Rosen one last time? Would be a great gesture by JD.

I doubt it, I noticed when CBJ had their NYR-NYI games in the area last month that JD was on during the MSGSN Isles pregame and no mention or appearance by him on the Rangers one. My guess there are some bad feelings how he was fired as the POHO. We know Dolan holds grudges infamously as well.

The NHL Network has picked up the VAN game on 3/22. That's the Salute To Sam game. Out of market fans will very likely miss out on the ceremony, especially if you are like me, and don't have NHL Network. They may not show the ceremony. When the Rangers are featured on the NHL Network, the game is not shown live on ESPN+. This is awful.

Plan to find a creative way to watch the MSG feed of the game.

This is most of a letter I wrote to Sam maybe 10-12 years ago. I cut some parts out. I have no idea if he ever received it.

Dear Sam,

I have been a Ranger fan forever.

I’m not going to dance around this. I’m just going to say it. Your telecasts have become almost
unwatchable. John Davidson got you into a very bad habit which you have continued since he
left. You don’t announce games anymore. You blather on about any subject as if you were two
guys watching TV on a couch. I don’t care what you had for dinner last night. I don’t care
where players were born or went to school. I don’t care what each and every player likes to eat
or what kind of music they like. And I certainly don’t care about those things while they play is
on. Announce the game!

You used to be a very good play-by-play man until John Davidson became so full of himself that
he began to think that what he said was more important than the game. You deferred so much to him during the game that you began to engage with him instead of announcing the game. And you haven’t recovered since.

A typical call by you is “XXX is recovering from knee surgery, he had a really good doctor; the
same doctor that operated on….. GOAL!!!
What? What happened? Where? No announcing. No flow of the game. The goal interrupted
your conversation. It’s embarrassing. Or at least it should be.

I’m not writing this to be nasty. I want you to get back to being the announcer that you used to
be. Make believe that you’re doing play-by-play on the radio.

Sincerely (really),

Me
