Prospect Info: Sam Rinzel D Chaska High School-Minnesota 25th overall

I think he'll be a #1 pairing when he gets established with the Hawks.....he's got all the tools.
Hawks could conceivably have both the first and second pairings be equivalent to a top pairing. More offensive right dman should be paired with Vlasic, more defensive right dman with Korchinski. Crevier/other paired with Allen/DelMastro/other.

End game both defensive guys together if winning, opposite if losing. Really nice options, potentially.

Vlasic - Levshunov
Del Mastro - Rinzel
Korchinski - Allan/Crevier

Love it. Maybe even Soderstrom surprises.

What do we realistically see Rinzel being in the NHL?
It’s unrealistic to ever predict anyone to be a 1D in my mind. I think it’s realistic that he’ll be a #2D.
I have realistic ceilings as:
Levshunov (he’s that good) 1D
Rinzel 2D
Vlasic 2D
Korchinski 2D
Del Mastro 3D
Kaiser 4D

As of now, Chicago hit the lottery w Rinzel. I think I preferred Howard and had concerns about Rinzels level of competition but so far so great.

Every now and again the toolsy pick pays off.

If everything goes right he kind of reminds me Pietrangelo. Biggest thing I think is going to be how he adjusts to NHL pace.

I don’t see Korchinski having a future with the Hawks tbh. His defensive deficiencies are still apparent, and his offense doesn’t make up for it. You have Lev who can run a powerplay, Vlasic and EDM who are way better defensively on the left side, where does he fit?

Use him to get a legitimate forward piece.

I think the writing is on the walls if this coaching staff keeps giving EDM over 20 minutes a night for most of the rest of this season and he doesn't look out of place. Vlasic is already logging big minutes on the left side, so if EDM can prove that he can handle big minutes too, we won't keep KK just to play him less than 17 minutes a night. Allan or Kaiser can handle that role just fine.

My best guess is him and either the 2025 1st from Toronto or the 2026 1st from Florida are moved in a trade for a big addition up front.

If a trade like that materializes sure, but I actually think keeping him in sheltered third pair minutes would be really ideal to get him up to speed.

No rush at all with him, as good as Vlasic and Del Mastro have been, KK could be just as good still.

Let's see how it plays out. There is going to be a lot of competition on D next camp for sure, but no reason why KK can't establish himself as well. He was good when brought up.

I'm very confused on people writing off Korchinski. I think he can be Brian Campbell & that is a very valuable player.

But...as I wrote a long ways back ... Chicago should consider making a D for F prospect swap. There's just not enough minutes to go around & it's about to get worse if Rinzel signs soon (I hope he does not; my preference is he stays another season).

I think Rinzel needs to be in Rockford next season, with some short stints on the Hawks.

It's not writing him off. He's got value.

The question is if he is a good fit for the future here. We know Vlasic will get 23ish minutes on the left side. If one of EDM, Allan, or Kaiser shows they can play over 20 minutes a night on that left side, then it makes KK less of a fit. If Lev is on the top pp unit in the future, that makes KK less of a fit. If Rinzel's offensive game translates well and he becomes an option for that 2nd unit, KK becomes less of a fit.

It's much better to keep him than to give him away for less value than he's worth. But if these things above all happen, and another team is willing to give up good value for KK, than that option needs to be explored.

If they trade him, it should be for a forward that fits the timeline. Trading him for a soon-to-be 30 year old or older doesn’t make any sense. It needs to be for someone that is preferably in that 23-26 year old age range.
