Player Discussion Sam "Dikembe" Montembeault

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

When he is steady, and the boys score, it's always good.
I find with Monty, every 3-4 games he $hits the bed badly. He needs way more consistency.
I still don't like when he constantly slides from side to side, and overplays the play, and leaves way too much of the net open...
Goalies are always a work in progress, but if he can settle those bad games...

He is consistently inconsistent but many times the team has terrible defensive awareness, much needed improvement all around.

The last time we really paid for a goaltenders was at the 2005 draft.
Time is catching up with us!
.. Maybe Fucale but meh ..
Still awhile.

Montembeault is excellent backup but play him 5 or 6 games in a row he wears down. Hopefully he sits two of next three games. Montembeault never costs us the Blues game. The team was blown away. But he costs us a point in Colorado game. Their first goal he should of had. Their 2nd goal borderline. Lindgren a weak wrist shot from just outside high danger area. But he had clear view. Monty just missed it. Costs is a point against Islanders. We won in spite of him against Ottawa.

Dobes hasn't started since Seattle game, I think. Hopefully he's not rusty. Quite a lay off

I thought that in 2025 we would understand that advanced statistics are not painting a complete picture. Making statements like these is ridiculous. Montembeault a top 5 goalie for 3 years now? Give me a break.

The stats show a goalie who is surprisingly good against high danger chances but really weak against shots from distance.

That's a goalie who is gonna be in trouble in the playoffs.

Surely any one of the highly-qualified and impactful training, analytics, or sports science staffs have been pleading with MSL to be more helpful in maximizing Monty’s output. :sarcasm:

Its on MSL

Monty has played the 5th most games in the league , he's deployed like he's sorokin or shesterkin or hellyebuck lol

I'd say it is more on Hughes for not sorting out the back-up position earlier. Before Dobes was recalled, Montembeault started 20 out their last 23 games, with how shitty Primeau was playing around then MSL had no choice but to play Montembeault burn him out.

Now MSL is stuck either overplaying Monty or playing a guy with 12 career starts who has only 1 win in his last 7 games with a 3.71 GAA and .882 save %

Like another poster was saying, it’s not about hating. I don’t think he deserves to be hated for being what he is. He’s stopping a bit less than 90% of the shots he’s facing and he’s giving at least one bad goal on most nights. Us making the playoffs would be a huge surprise and we clearly get emotional at this prospect when realizing that he is probably not the right goaltender for this possible outcome. We’ve been spoiled with good goaltending with Roy, Theodore, Halak and Price and we now feel what other teams have been through for years. I have really high hopes for Jakob Fowler.
