The other thing that doesn't get mentioned enough is the extra travel compared to signing in the east. Players that are in the 27-30 range are old enough to be sick of travel and are starting to raise families. Combined with the taxes and high COL (particularly housing), California is just not attractive for hockey players. And, believe it or not, a fair number of players don't like the warmer weather.The issue is that the ducks are also a small market/unpopular team compared to the Lakers, Dodgers, Rams - those are teams with like the highest franchise values in their respective sports.
