If Benny was available for trade for some reason, and he isn't, they would not trade him within the conference.
Feels like an overstatement—Bennett’s a solid player, but not exactly a franchise-altering talent. Do you really think Florida would be that scared of facing him a few times a year?

Florida still has the be the massive favorites to come out of the East. I don't think getting a few futures is worth trading him for, even if it is "efficient asset management".

We are the reigning champs, and are looking to make another deep run this season. He wouldn't be available, but if he was, just ask the fans of the teams that have played against him in the playoffs the last few years. Fear, or respect however you want to phrase it is owed to Benny. He is 100% a game changer in the playoffs.

There isn't a cup contender that wouldn't find a spot for him if they could.

Bennett has his cup. He spends summers in Toronto, so he's not taking a discount to stay in the city of Miami. The market for Bennett will be huge, and many teams will have the cap space to bid, with the cap going up. Every team that gets knocked out of the playoffs will want that physical playoff performer with intangibles.

Bennett is injury prone, and he knows it. He'll be looking for his retirement contract, and it's going to be well north of $7 million.

Players like Bennett always cash in big in free agency, and the contracts always end up looking horrible almost immediately. Bennett seems like the prototypical type of player for that kind of contract. He's bound to slow down physically as he gets older, and his hockey IQ isn't exceptional.

Or, he could take a discount to stay like Reinhart.

Florida would be nuts to trade him. Their window is now. Bennett has been a key part of their playoff drives.

It's going to be a bigger discount. Bidding wars are going to be nuts this off season. Plus Bennett already has the cup and spends the off season in his hometown Ontario.

Edit: did Reinhart take a big discount? He had one monster season in his contract year, but had been very up and down the rest of his career. His playoffs were so so. I didn't see anyone offering him $10 mil/year x 7, which is what it would have taken to get above the $69 Florida gave him, and that's not taking into account tax benefits in Florida.

If carolina think they cant sign rantanen, would it be totally crazy to think a trade: retained rantanen + walker for bennet + schmidt?

Lundell is also good in playoffs, luostarinen can play center.

What if he meets a nice girl from Tallahassee 🤔

Then he has an excuse to not go back

Agreed, we’d be nuts to trade him.

Him having a house up there doesn’t mean very much. Several guys have homes here and don’t play here.

No thanks. Rather re/sign Benny and figure out whether to keep Schmidt or to use his space and whatever’s opening to shore up the D.

Lundell and Luostairnen have great chemistry, and Eetu hasn’t played just the C position in awhile. Our center depth is a strength, Bennett plays a big part in that.

Tallahassee? That’s 7 hours away, and 4 hours from Tampa…and not exactly a place people target to vacation. But, it’s a college town…so maybe? Lol

They ain’t moving him. Don’t care if you want to hear it.

Zero chance the Panthers would trade him in the middle of a Cup run. Its pure fantasy to even entertain the idea.

Can confirm there are many many pretty girls in Tallahassee (I went to school there and live there)

Kinda the whole reason this site exists…no one here actually works for an NHL team and nothing posted here is binding on teams, players, or the league.

The site? It's made to discuss hockey. I'm assuming you mean this particular trade board? In which case that too is absolutely false, I have been here for more than 15 years as you can see. At no point has this website ever concluded that trades on the board have no basis in reality. As a matter of fact when threads are made that are outrageous, mods usually come in to shut it down. Why don't we bring back Maurice Richard and trade him for Wayne Gretzky who now plays for the Carolina Hurricanes and just scored 400 goals last year? Mario Lemieux would be great next to Gretzky's wing in Carolina right? The Hurricanes should trade for all three of them since they have the same agent, or maybe they don't have the same agent, or maybe they do? Its all fake who knows? :laugh:That's not the way this board has ever worked.

Generally true and would have been said about Avs and Rantatnen as well until a little bit ago.

Not at all, the two situations are different. The Panthers and Avs are in two different places. Same can be said for Carolina who has yet to win a Cup with this team. The Panthers have already won a Cup with this roster, and are on pace to do it again. If they were struggling or not playing well, or injured or some other reason that would warrant the trade I might tend to think it's possible. But at the moment there is nothing to warrant any reasoning behind trading Bennett. Not to mention the absolute shock and message it would send to the other players in the locker room. We threw away a core guy to get a draft pick and worse player back? Completely unrealistic scenario.

I could see the Jets being interested in him if allowed to talk to his agent beforehand to see if he would sign a new deal. He plays a tough brand of hockey, fills a need on the Jets. Jets would only want to trade picks and prospects, not roster players bc they want to add to the current roster not take away from it. Jets have over 11 million cap space available at the TDL to add a lot to the team.

The Jets centers would be:

Mark S
Sam Bennett
Adam Lowry
Names

That’s a very good set of centre's for the playoff hockey.

That being all said I can’t see him being traded before the TDL, just doesn’t make sense.

Seriously doubt the Panthers are going to trade Bennett. He's an important part of their defense of last year's Stanley Cup whether they can find a way to bring him back next year or lose him for small return or nothing. They're going to do their best to try to make it two in a row. They'll be a buyer.....not a seller and they'll mortgage more of their future to do that. That's what teams with real Stanley Cup aspirations do. The ride is a lot of fun while it lasts.
