Sam Bennett: Contract Negotiations

If he stays, I’ll guess half way between what Verhaeghe and Reinhart got. So I’ll say give or take around 7.8125per. Ideally at this point, he gets an identical contract that Verhaeghe got. Can’t justify paying him Reinhart money and certainly not more, but he’s getting over 7. If we can retain him as our 2nd line center and Ekblad on the top pairing, which keeps jones on the 2nd longterm, would be incredible for us longterm.

Between the ownership group, the GM, the coaching (and rest of the staff), having Barkov, Reinhart, tkachuk, Verhaeghe, Lundell, Forsling, and jones longterm. South Florida. No state income tax. State of the art practice facility in FTL. proven track record in the playoffs. We’re a premiere destination finally. Players would kill to play here now. I think those pending ufa’s would take a cut to stay, how much is the only question

One thing’s for sure: Benny has no motivation to outdo Reino or Swaggy. That’s not a driver. It doesn’t matter.

Therefore, he’ll get 8x$7.5M, and he’ll take it.

And I think that’s a completely reasonable deal and I’d like to think he takes that. If Samo gets 2.75per on a 2 or 3yr bridge. A backup G for 1mil, a 4th line center for 0.85mil and 1 mil for a 6th D, we’d have 13.4 mil remaining for Bennett and Ekblad. We could give Ekblad what Forsling got at 5.75 and Bennett would get the remaining 7.65. Then bob becomes a free agent the following year and takes something cheaper to offset the cost of resigning Mikkola. The raising annual cap should cover luostarinen when he becomes a ufa in 2yrs. It’s feasible to keep the team together. I just don’t see us retaining marchy, as amazing as that’d be

Or let Ek go and keep Marchy

I wasn’t being facetious before when saying we LTIR Chucky. If we make the Finals, that will extend His surgery. If the rumors are true that it can be a 6-8 month recovery, why it sit him for the season? Most likely we will lose Marchand, but it may be an option.

For me, having that luxury and depth of having jones on the 2nd pairing with Mikkola, while retaining your proven top line of Forsling-Ekblad, would be enormous. Same with Bennett as the 2nd line center and having the depth of Lundell on the 3rd.

I suppose you could flip erod and possibly even samo too in say the event we do keep both Bennet and Ekblad. Because at that point we’d have 7 of our top-9 longterm (I’ll count Loustarinen because I do see us resigning him as the cap goes up), we could roll boqvist on the 1st and use the freed up money to retain marchy on the 3rd. You use the cap space that’s freed up to resign him and use the assets acquired (picks/prospects) to add more depth. I suppose it’s possible

One of the best known, least talked about “secrets” of the Panthers is that lines 2-4 are so good because the first line can be either

ERod - Barky - Reino

Or it can be

Peewee - Barky - Brady

We'll be able to keep Ekblad, Bennett, and Marchand if we want and the players are willing to give a little.

If Ekblad signs at $5M AAV, Bennett $7.5M and Marchand at $5M, we're only around $3M over the cap with a full 23 man roster. Tkachuk will start the season on LTIR, that's pretty much a given so that's not a problem. Part way through the season, somebody will be injured and that'll open up space to bring Tkachuk back or whatever, they'll figure it out. The amount of cap needed isn't insurmountable so it can be done if they want.

Or trade ERod to Anaheim for a pick

Been saying it all along... Love ERod but trading him may allow us to keep Marchand.

Marchand taking a one-year bonus-driven contract could allow us to keep everyone though... Maybe Zito finds a way. I won't bet against him.

What are the maths again if let's say, Benny and Ekky take similar 7.5M/year deals ? Pretty sure it's VERY tight but it can work.

Who TF knows, with the way Bob keeps his body in shape, we can re-sign him for a couple of years. Obviously for less than 10 though.

For sure. I don't think he's looking for max $ over a place he's made home and won at.

IIRC the 10mil # was impacting his game early on here.

Boston low balled him. He wanted 6.5 I think.
He was also the captain and going into a rebuild.

I would bet if we win, we could get him back at 5 per, he just wants to win and I'd bet his family would be fine coming to Florida to live.

Balinskis takes Schmidts spot next year and we would only need a backup for Bob.

Benny 7 Ekky 5 Marchy 5

Would only be tight for 1 season.

Ekky isn’t staying at 5M imo…

What about Benny 7.5M, Ekky 7.5M and Marchand on a one-year 2M + 4M in bonus ?

Not sure if the math works or if the Marchand idea is allowed… But it is doable IMO.

And Zito will find a way !

Big thing will also be terms… We are not getting any younger and our real big window should be the next three years again or something… You can even stretch to 5 when you think about Jones and Lundell contracts timeline.

I wouldn’t care if Bennett and Ekblad got 8 years deal, even though it sounds like a receipt for disaster…

If those guys win one more, you have to give it to them but make sure they’re gonna try and go for that dynasty !

Then in the last few years, you just enjoy the memories…
