The Panthers are looking like sellers, one of the players, I think could generate a lot of interest is Sam Bennett.

I don't know if Florida would move him because he's not a rental and he's on pace for 50+ points if they were open to it I think there would be a significant market.

Panthers aren't looking like sellers, just like how Vegas wasn't a seller last year. They are looking like a team that will regroup in the offseason when they aren't cap strapped and can actually upgrade their defense. The amount of offensive talent on that team is still near the top of the league.

Not at all the same Vegas didn't choose to gut their depth and destroy their team Florida did.

Also Vegas has a 1st before 2026

They have to make cap space though

Getting a 1st for Bennett may be a good idea especially if they can move another contract like Duclair with him

Huh? Vegas essentially traded away their starting goaltender, a role playing depth player in Reeves, a top 6 forward on a team friendly contract in Tuch, a 1st, a 2nd, and an NHL ready high end prospect in Krebs, for a guy with a huge contract that couldn't play for hockey for another 4+ months and a pair of 3rd round picks. How is that not willingly gutting their roster for a year?

On top of that, just like Florida this year, Vegas suffered a lot from injuries to multiple core players on their team.

Florida not having any 1st before 2026 is all the more reason to not start tanking. It gets them nothing. They may end up selling some depth players on expiring deals like Gudas, or may be forced to make a move with their injured players coming back, but thinking they are in "sell mode" more than trimming the edges is just silly

If I was Zito, it'd take a big overpay to move him. I like his overall toolbox, he just sucks at faceoffs and taking ill timed penalties.
His contract is perfect for his production and he plays with a bit of sandpaper.

Reinhart is the more easy target to move.

The third line of your post is why I wonder if somebody will step up.

And I specifically wonder about Dubas in this case we know the trade Kadri blocked before he went to Colorado was for Brodie and Bennett so he's tried before.

We also know he prefers players he can either sign like Giordano, or players with term like Muzzin , or the attempted MAF/Brandon Hagel trade he doesn't really like the pure rentals.

Bennett has term.

I bet if Bennett is available Dubas is calling

Regardless of the comparison, Florida won't be sellers this year simply because the first they traded isn't lottery protected.

The nightmare scenario if it ends up being 1OA, a trade that would potentially go down in infamy as among the worst ever. Less dramatic but still really bad if it's 2OA. Or 3 or 4 in a deep draft.

Teams like Florida aren't selling unless they nosedive really quickly from now till the deadline. Those kind of teams still want to make the playoffs. Same reason St. Louis won't be selling. The playoff race is far from settled and not every team is wanting to sell off core players for picks when they still intend on being competitive.

St Louis is at least going to sell their UFA's

With 2 additional years left, I'd be asking Knies + something good.

Not really interested in picks being the main piece because TOR pick will be in the 20th range already.

Except Bennett isn’t getting a 1st outright back. He’s more of a 2nd+. Thr only way is a First is advancing in playoffs and him playing rnough ehere the pick is in the final 4.

I decided to check Florida’s UFAs after this comment to see if there’s anyone worth selling. All that did was make me wonder wtf they’re doing with Tierney in the AHL after he looked better than half their roster during his call up.

At his contract, he's getting two firsts in value: a playoff style, physical center who has averaged 60 pts per 82 as a Panther and signed for 2.5 years at a good rate is valued a lot.

Only way I see us trading Bennett is in a three way for Chychrun

Ya I'm not super excited to trade Reinhart or Bennett for picks, rather defense as you mentioned.

If we did ship Bennett for picks, it'd better be a team you think will decline really quick in hopes one of the 1sts becomes a top 10 pick.

Pittsburgh for example may be showing signs of some decline.
But it's way easier to take the proven defenseman in trade that fits our window opening again next year.

Bennett just has too much value to us right now, really hope Zito sees this.

Yep: only in a 3 way for Chychun: if we can turn Bennett+Samos into Chychryn, do it

Can't see the Panthers moving. He's a terrific value contract for them; something they're going to need more of, not less.

They'll move Reinhart or Duclair. Or probably just take a page from the Lightning's playbook and use some LTIR shenanigans.

First step is to get a better coach though.
