Saginaw Spirit 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

Don’t have the sound on but I’m assuming you’re referring to Dennis Desrosiers. He is up there in age now and far from what he used to he use to be as color. But he’s a local legend after his playing days with the gears back in the 70’s. He’ll decide when he retires for good. They’ve used a rotation of color guys this year including Flint’s former play by play man Jack Sznewjas and former Spirit player/Saginaw native Brad Walch.
It's not zdesrosiers. I think it's Walch.

It is Walch tonight... I think with a little bit of confidence he could do well but there's not a lot of chemistry with Dillon... Jack S is really good in there with Dillon and Rosie is Rosie.

Did I miss something....what's up with Oke?
Misa caught him in the head during their game against Barrie. Out with concussion since then. Missed time last playoff after he was run into so I'm sure they don't want to rush him back and possibly end his hockey career. Would suck if he can't make it back before we are eliminated (whenever that is) but would rather he's good to go for the next step in his career.

Shitty way to go out but on the upside I thought the Spirit's younger forwards (Harmer, Cloutier and Zhilkin) really stepped up with a depleted bench.

Zhilkin is way beyond his years, hard to believe this was a D-2 season.

Yeah at least we have some guys to build around for the next run. Will be fun to watch them grow.

Body is still warm but wanted to take a look at the possible line up for 2025/26 ahead of the draft.

2025-26.png

-Made a couple assumptions. Misa gone whether that be NHL or a year in the NCAA. Parekh NHL or moved if/when he is returned to the OHL.

-Even with those assumptions we can ice almost a full line up before drafts.

-Young, young, young. Plenty of guys to build around/watch grow but they are going to be relatively green. Sima Gervais, and Guo seem like slam dunk OA options. Will have to watch this summer to see if any get offers from the NCAA.

-At F, Harmer, Clouthier, Zhilkin take over as the next big pieces to go along with Epperson. Najim, Campbell, and Theuer should come in full time. Think we fill out the lines with our 1st rounder, an import, and another prospect. Ian Lachance is interesting. Big kid who had a strong season in the GOJHL this year. I don't see room for Weir. He was ok in his stint here. Don't know if he was good enough to take time away from the young guys.

-So many D coming back. Problem is that none of them seem like the next one to take up the mantle of blue line general that the team needs. Liked Barnes alot when he got time. Seinko was ok. Jones seemed to hold his own this season. Velliaris has size and some tools. Glavin has grit. I just don't know with that group. Someone there has to take a big step forward. I think Glavin catches the short end of the stick here like Weir. Would also love to see O'Neill officially signed. He got some games as an affiliate. He instantly slots in the top 2 pairs if he commits.

-I think we get a goalie in the import draft to hold down the fort for one year. Papineau had his moments where you think he might be able to be a starter but then he goes back to looking like a back up. He tried his best in a bad situation to end the year but I'd rather they get someone from the outside. Let Diblasi get 20ish games and see if he's worth keeping or not.

-Overall it might be a rough year. Our division will be very tough and there aren't going to be enough game breakers on this team yet to make a ton of noise. 8-5 range maybe? If they really hit home runs in the import draft and get miracle returns then this changes things but I am not counting on that. This will be a year to just enjoy watching the young guys grow into new important roles.

Well Parekh gets called up to the show. Will see how many games he gets. Believe he has to be sent to the Wranglers (AHL) if they want him eligible for the AHL playoffs. Flames still in the hunt for NHL playoffs. So not a stress free intro to the league.

Is he eligible to get sent to AHL even in the offseason? Isn't he subject to the CHL/NHL agreement until after next year?

With pick 13 Saginaw selects Ryan Hanrahan.

My first thought is “who?” Anyone have any info on him. Super slight for a guys his size
SCOUTING REPORT: Ryan is an impactful player on his team and the rest of his team has really felt his latest injury. He is the driving force on his team in all aspects of the game on both sides of the puck. He has good quickness, overall speed and edge control that make him hard to handle in all three zones. He competes and plays much bigger than he is and you notice him every time he is on the ice. Ryan is a smart player that plays in every situation for his team and has been relied on all season to create offense for his team

Thanks sounds like he fits us but seeing his weight and stuff like “latest injury” isn’t great.
