Saginaw Spirit 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

Interesting question as we get closer to the end of the season:

Let's say Misa keeps it up and finishes 1st in the OHL scoring race. Gets to the high 120's or low 130's. 60 goals. Star prospect for the upcoming draft. Let's also say Zayne Parekh stays on pace. Would be the first 100 point defenseman since Ryan Ellis in 2010/11. Would also be the 1st back to back 30 goal scoring defenseman in league history IIRC. Which one does Saginaw put up for the Red Tilson? Teams only get one candidate.
Misa who will prob get top prospect award too

What a fight by Velliaris holy he creamed poor Pharand!

Again- watch in a year or two that’s when he will be most effective. Some team will take a late pick on him I am sure- fast, big body d man very raw and can fight.

One of the chippiest games I've ever seen in my life. Zero flow. Hopefully it isn't anything serious with Oke. We had to use a local Sudbury kid as back up tonight. Papineau continues to look like the better goalie. And Misa adds a couple goals and an assist to become Saginaw's all time leading scorer. Congrats Michael!

Really surprised to see Oke have the season he is. I really expected him to go off this year.

Gusty performance by Papineau to help kill off that 5 on 3 with under 5 to play. Thought that we were for sure giving up two there and Flint was going to get their 6th straight W. Needed those 2 points because the rest of the week is super tough. Turn around and get Barrie and then Brantford Saturday night. Parekh passes Vincent Trocheck for most assists all time in Spirit history. Him and Misa were fighting for that record but Zayne has kind of pulled away there. He's also now a single point away from become the first defenseman in the CHL to get to 100 pts since Ryan Ellis.

OHL: Ryan Ellis (2010-11, 100 in 58)
WHL: Shane Peacock (1992-93, 102 in 65)
QMJHL: Danny Groulx (2001-02, 112 in 68)

Not going to be upset about the result. Couple posts and some good goaltending on both ends. Just the way it goes some nights. Would like points against Windsor just to get some momentum back but next week eases up with Soo Flint Flint to end the season.

Perfetti, Misa, Parekh, Mintyukov, Saad, Trocheck, Brodie were locks.

I'd sub Middleton, Smith, or McNeil for Hronek on defense.

Lots of forwards that could have been included: Mangone, Bloom, Pyatt, Locke, Giroux

Move Pasquale up to first team goalie. I would have went with Prosvetov for the 2nd team goalie.

Guelph does Saginaw a favor with a win against Erie tonight. We will be 4th. Now to see how many guys we sit this week. I still think Misa plays tomorrow but maybe takes the weekend off. Guess it depends on how important the OHL and CHL scoring titles are to him.

Slept walked through that 1st period and waaaaaaay too many penalties. Good to have some fight back. Congrats to Misa on becoming the first draft eligible player in the OHL to get 60 goals since Patrick Kane. Didn't need to see Gervais get hurt. That might scare Laz into icing a very different line up for these last two.

I come in peace ✌🏼

What happened to Oke? Heard he was injured back in late February, is he expected back for playoffs?

Also just wanted to note what impressive seasons for Misa and Parekh.

As a Spits fan; I don’t like your roster heading into playoffs and have my fingers crossed for an awesome round 2 matchup 👀

Misa caught Oke in the head as he going across the crease in the Barrie game. Unfortunate accident hope he can come back.

I don’t follow Saginaw that closely and didn’t watch last night, but what the hell happened? Is Saginaw short anybody? Or was last night just on e of those nights?

It was just one of those periods...the 1st and 3rd we were the better team, during the 2nd, a mite team could have beat us.

Also you know exactly who is out... You responded to my post in the Erie page where I listed all the people who are missing.

Yeah they hit like 3 posts in the first. Erilidin did a good job of keeping it from being like 3-0 Saginaw after 1. Think they got frustrated after Erie got on the board first after how they played. Got to pick your head up quick or teams can pounce on you as Erie did.

I wasn’t paying attention to that part, I think I only replied to clarify Terrance/Torrance.

Saginaw just dont have good goaltending. It’s clear if you watch the games.

Your play by play commentator does a good job but who is the color commentator? He seems like he is drunk and forgets what he is saying halfway through his sentences.
