There's a reason you have a backup goalie. He wasn't feeling it that night and thought it was time for the other guy. I have a harder time understanding why he was left in. I'm not sure what the point was in doing that other than to be alpha.
Patrick went on to win the cup that year with the Avs (Nordiques) and the Canadiens are still waiting for another one. It's like the hockey version of the curse of the Bambino
