I actually dont know how many pieces they need to add. They need to refine that last 10% attention to detail. Bad penalties, bad pinches were really the result here. Florida are a powerhouse team who know how to take advantage of mistakes. Every detail matters in these situations. We let it get away when we took bad penalties and allowed odd man rushes the other way. Skill wise, I think we hung with them pretty well.
This reminds me of some press conference or something where Lindy was speaking over the summer.

He said that this group of players needs to "learn how to not lose games" before they can learn how to win games consistently.

The Kings game and this game were the absolute prime examples of us actively losing the game instead of winning or getting a point. Hopefully as the season goes on, we'll learn how to not lose these games.

I actually came away from that game feeling slightly more optimistic. I can't remember the last time they played a fully healthy Florida squad like that. Florida was gooning it up, and we were giving it right back. Goaltending needs to be better, and the back breaking mistakes need to be ironed out, but there's something to build on. If they can play this way for the majority of the season, then I think they can make the WC. The PP is looking a bit more dangerous, too.
I thought UPL played super well for most of the game. He made some huge saves when needed and then let in some pretty standard goals. I wouldn't even call them softies. Florida is just really f***ing good. I am proud that the boys hung with them that long.

I tend to agree for the most part. I kinda wish that maybe he makes a save on Boqvist's goal or Bennett's goal or Barkov's goal.......but all 3 were tremendous shots that many NHL goalies would struggle to stop. Plus, it kinda looks like Cliffy might have affected Bennett's goal.....and Rodrigues may have screened/distracted UPL enough on Barkov's goal.

You're absolutely right that he made some huge saves between Dahlin's goal and Bennett's goal that really kept us in the game and gave us a real chance to tie/take the lead.

Add the Pittsburgh game to that as well.

I genuinely hate our rep with other fans. Whether it's other fanbases feeling bad for us as fans, or joking about how we are going to be under .500 again this year, or that their team was sleepwalking through their game against us (used in both losses to us or closer games that they still win). I understand that respect needs to be earned, but goddamn. I thought i watched a good game last night, but instead i guess i am supposed to be a shamed and embarrassed. /rant

Yeah despite the loss, Im not down on the team. They looked like an NHL team despite discipline, a goalie, Dahlin and mistakes costing them.

I dont feel as bad about this one as the Kings game. Florida floats in a tier of their own. The Kings....ehhh..can't let teams like that come back.

Do love how that time Verhegee took out Dahlin with a filthy crosscheck into the crossbar that injured him and cost us a playoff spot a few years back has been memory holed by the clowns on the main board.

I know but you're right, Cozens can still raise he complete level.
It’s just sooooooo damn frustrating to watch a guy who had a competitive physical edge to his game seemingly abandon it. It’s a skill set that would be a great add to our top 6 mix since we have little of it there.
