I also saw the defense play the body in front of their own net. They might be somewhat coachable after all.

Didn’t matter because the puck came out but that was really good puck tracking by McLeod in the offensive zone. Away from the puck entering the zone on the opposite side of the ice read the play perfectly. If the D keeps it in there’s going to be someone open in the right slot for a pass.

I’m going to harp on it because I’ve watched it and it’s driven me nuts for years. You see that 3 on 2 coming back that led to not even a look for the Flames? It’s because both D went where they were supposed to. Yes, the forwards got back to muck up secondary lanes…which they also haven’t been doing. But the rush itself was dead because no one drifted away from their assignment for no reason anyone could understand.

This, when I was living in Helsinki these afternoon games were really the only thing that kept me connected to the NHL. The NHL in it's infinite wisdom invariably puts the least desirable games on in the afternoon for the European market.
