Tampa needs to continue its re-tool to keep its window open. Cirelli is the only expendable (sort of) player that can be moved - he has no NTC till July 1st.
He's signed to a 6.25M contract till 30/31, fresh off a career high in points and a Selke trophy nomination.
It was reported at the deadline that JBB was laser focused on getting Tuch, and he's exactly the kind of player the Lightning need. But Buffalo wouldn't budge because they wanted a hockey trade and not a trade for prospects/picks.
Would Buffalo trade Tuch (with an extension in place) for Cirelli? This move would also give Tampa 1.5M more in Cap Space for this offseason.

Unless Tuch wants out or doesn't want to resign I can't see Buffalo moving him.

You would probably have a better chance acquiring Peterka instead of Tuch.

As great as Cirelli is defensively, and as welcomed as he would be in Buffalo, this is just patching one gaping hole while creating another. I’d value Tuch’s offensive driving and size more in a vacuum.

This would seem to be contingent on extension talks with Tuch going poorly as well, and I think it’s too soon to assume that is the case. Tuch is the one in his prime star that I think Buffalo probably feels they can convince to hitch the rest of their prime to the team with. He’s not just their most consistent offensive producing forward, he’s in a leadership role and a culture guy. And yeah, we can make fun of “Sabres winning culture” but by all accounts this is a guy you want to keep for these final steps towards a winning team.

If Buffalo is trying to improve, why would they trade Tuch? The whole point is to add to what they have, not make 1 for 1 trades and losing good players.

Buffalo needs to add a Cirelli, not swap a Tuch for a Cirelli.

This- personally willing to sell Quinn, Power, or Byram, and that’s pretty much it. For roster players that fix our issues. Otherwise we have picks and prospects available. If you want Peterka, cool, how about some picks? Thompson? Ya he’s great, we’ll keep him, thanks for checking.

There aren't any realistic scenarios where trading Tuch or Thompson makes the Sabres better.

You're going to have to wait until the upcoming trade deadline and hope the Sabres are hopelessly out of the hunt (not a very unrealistic possibility) and that Tuch tells the team he refuses to sign an extension (possible but imo not very likely).

Byram for Cirelli, yes. Tuch? No way.
That's something that TB should consider if they want to prolong their window and have more of a rebuild as both Hedman and McDonaugh are in their mid 30's.

Cirelli is an excellent 2 way center but Bryam is a very good 2 way Dman who scores very well at ES and has PP skills as well.

Bryan is also 4 years younger than Cirelli an has way more runway left in his NHL career.

I think TB might consider this if they think Geekie has enough upside to slide into the middle for them.

Kind of a weird proposal, in that i don't think Tampa gets better by losing critical Center depth. And i'm not sure Buffalo gets better that way either. For better or worse, they're kind of in on injury-Norris now and can't really afford to lose any of that grit, physicality, toughness from their lineup that Tuch provides.

Alternatives:
Byram+Quinn for Cirelli
Peterka+9th overall for Cirelli+2nd+3rd

But yeah I'd trade Tuch for Cirelli straight up.
