Friedman: Sabres gauging the market on Byram

If Byram is as bad as Buffalo fans keep saying he is, then I have less than zero interest in moving Eklund for him.
I would take literally everything they say and do the opposite.

Do they need Byram because hes a poor mans Dahlin? No, but they also think theyre contenders with a couple tweaks. This team is closer to a lottery team than contending sadly.

They need to go ham for McKenna and are too dumb to realize it.

Not really a revelation since they are a lottery team.

Flames should definitely be in on this. Could see a deal around Byram + for Andersson making sense for both sides

The Flames should definitely push for this. Makes sense for Buffalo too. They get Andersson who is in his prime now and offers a better all around game to back up their more offensively orientated d-men.

Bahl, Weegar, Parekh, Byram, Pachal, and Brzustewicz is a pretty solid d-core for the Flames. Great landing spot for Byram, who will get a lot more offensive opportunities in Calgary.

I'm talking about Bowen Byram and why the Sabres would move him. Weegar is right handed so why would I say he's redundant in handedness?
I'm curious do you actually think Samuelsson will hold as a top 4 with Byram gone. We can't simply move Dahlin back to LD when he is the only one who can really play in our top 4 on the right side currently. I'd how many LD we have in bodies if they can't fit into a top 4 role. If Power is the only one who can play there after Byram is gone this doesn't solve anything.

What would someone offer for Byram plus the 9th pick? That would be a package that many teams would be intrigued by.

What a stupid senseless trade to acquire him just for the hell of it. He filled no need. The Sabres GM operates as if building a team to win games isn't even an afterthought.

Why are you assuming we won’t be acquiring more defenseman if Byram is moved? Almost certainly will be

Defensive-dmen who can pair well with Dahlin/Power.
One top 6 scorer or top 6 twf.
Re-iterating PIT's offer of Bryan Rust, a top 6 forward who scores 30/30 and plays a responsible 2 way game and adds veteran leadership BUF sorely needs, plus a late first we expect to acquire from trading either Karlsson or Rakell, for Byram.

Your Sabre and Sabre poster takes are always some of the most hyperbolic bullshit to read on this forum.

If Buffalo is fine with a package of futures, I think San Jose would be a good spot for Byram, but more than likely they would want an already-effective young NHL player.
That's part of the problem with the Sabers though, they have a pretty decent pipeline coming up and have been close to becoming a playoff team for quite a while but something there every year goes wrong and they don't take that next step.

They almost certainly would need an NHL trade for Bryam not a futures one.

Not to mention the defensive play (or lack thereof) from our forwards…
I think this gets overlooked at times as the D group is actually probably better than most people think, the forward group just overall is underwhelming and inconsistent.

Sometimes a team is greater than the sum of its parts but Buffalo is the opposite here.

When the Sabres are still fighting for the 8th spot in the playoff chase, No question they just can't get there without proven experience. Lots of teams just don't make the cut due to not enough proven talent. Free agent supply is not great so better trade for experienced talent.

Cole Perfetti for Byram

Winnipeg gets a defenseman they are lacking and Buffalo gets a young cost controlled forward.

Buffalo can then move out Peterka for a top 4 defenseman
No…Jets will keep Perfetti.
Don’t need any top 4 LHD

The problem is that teams who would be a good fit for Byram aren’t teams that have things that Buffalo needs.
