Sabres don’t fire Adams or Ruff

Bills keeping us going.

I can only laugh when I find out people still hate the Sabres on this board, when they haven't been a threat to anyone in a generation.

There's no major sports team more miserable to root for than the Buffalo Sabres right now.

Eh, hockey fans are fickle. I still hate teams from stuff in the '70's and '80's. The cement on those thoughts is no longer wet.

The sabres have to be a tax write off or something. Not a serious franchise. Owner should sell for the sake of the fans, while they still have some.

Why would they fire Adams? Having a new gm or coach search would be an unneeded expense for Pegula. He has no interest in spending unnecessary money on the team
That's a completely overblown assumption. Pegula has had zero issue with spending money on the roster and zero issue paying for fired HCs and GMs. (Coaching staffs and scouting department? That's another story)

The reason that Adams isn't being fired is even simpler than money -- he makes Pegula feel heard in all decisions. Murray and Botterill never did, which is a big reason why both got fired. Pegula doesn't need to make the decisions, just feel like he has a voice.

Pegula LIKES Adams. That's why he's not being fired.

Lots of time left for Buffalo to make a management move. I wouldn't be overly worried, yet....

Nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't interfere with a clear eyed assessment of Adams performance as a GM.

Am I the only one that feels like the coach and GM aren’t the issue in Buffalo?

So when I see this, I shrug. So what? I’m sure their fans are mad and all that. Not saying they’re good at their job. I don’t think Ruff is an NHL level coach anymore, nor do I think Adams has done more than an okay job.

I don’t see these two being the difference between them getting over the hump and not doing so.

Seems more like an owner issue, and then a group of players that are talented but don’t come together as a team to play up to their ability on a consistent basis. At a certain point, it’s on them (owner and players), and they can’t keep firing coaches and GM’s.

This is rather surprising, given that the team f***ing sucked despite having a decent roster, so many high draft picks, and a record number of years without playoffs. Should they have been fired? Yes. Why weren’t they? Because Terry is a cheap bastard man. Discuss.

Seriously, the pp and pk were so f***ing bad, you can’t tell me this is a pro coaching staff. Money isn’t being spent on basic billionaire shit, it’s a problem. The NHL has a derelict owner.
Roster was a bit overrated coming into the season imo

A Sabres fan told me that when they hired Ruff, he couldn't bring in his own coaching staff and had to stick with the guys they already had.

I'm too lazy to look that up as I eat some cinnamon bread before work, but if anyone can confirm or deny that for me, I thank you in advance.

They tried to frame it like it was Ruff's idea, but then he basically said before the season he was meeting his assistants for the first time ever. For sure it was Pegula being a tight-wad and not wanting to pay coaches to not coach for the team.

Actually Ruff himself was a cheap Pegula hire, because the Sabres only have to pay him a small salary. The Devils have to pay the difference until his contract expires with them.

Pegula allows his wife to run all aspects of the team! Adam’s and Ruff are just behind the scenes decoration

You might not be aware of this, but Kim Pegula had a heart attack in 2022 that caused a significant brain injury due to lack of oxygen. She is legally incapacitated and has no role in running the Sabres anymore. It's quite sad actually.
