Not that it really matters, but couldn't they have two identical costumes and just have the same mascot at both places?

Theoretically they could, but then you wouldn't have fun one-off stories like this.

(fr, if the Flyers end up playing in Europe one of these years, and there's a preseason game when the Phils aren't playing, I'd mark out if Gritty went to Europe, and the Phillies let the Phanatic sub in for a game.)
