Well, at least Vanecek looked good. Makes the loss of Knight sting slightly less. Will help us down the stretch

Yeah I looked up Vanacek's stats.
His last 2 seasons aren't good stats wise though he was also on bottom 10 defensive teams


But he had a.908sv% or higher in his first 3 seasons (123 games) when he was on PO teams. That's a pretty damn good sample size.

For reference, that's about the same sv% Knight gave us in 2021 and this year.

Obviously not saying Vanacek = Knight. The latter has significantly higher potential. But Vanacek might actually be a serviceable to good backup for us short term.

But his positioning and tracking on the first save looked pretty good, so no worries there… Rebound control and tracking may not be the best, but it is still a job where he should get much help with our team.

I was worried he was gonna be atrocious and all over the place, but no. So I’m pretty happy, as we should all be !

Vanecek obviously was very good, but Seth Jones looks great on the second pair and Nico Sturm was a slam dunk pickup.

Blocked a shot on his first shift, was heavy along the boards, showed some nice speed, looked active on the PK, had good instincts and was noticeable a couple of times in the O-zone…

Didn’t pay attention to his faceoffs, but he is NHL’s best so…

Overall a great pickup for our 4th-line !
