If it’s 1st overall maybe something around that+ Peterka and maybe Benson for Brock Faber? He’s a dman you win a cup with

Edit- yes definitely overpay in a vacuum but would Minnesota actually trade him for less? Not a fan of either team.

There is zero reason for Wild to trade Faber even for an overpay

Curious what you think Powers value is. I don't think there is an add to get Charlie. Power is on his ELC as a #1 overall D. That is easily 3 firsts of value.

Sure there’s an add. McAvoy is a proven #1 defenseman. Power has draft pedigree and tools, he hasn’t put everything together. The add is the risk that Boston would be taking on, which truthfully is significant.

I don’t agree with the premise that McAvoy would be available regardless, and I sure don’t see why he’d waive his NMC to go to Buffalo. Buffalos roster is pinned up on pipe dreams of what could be, not where they are now. That’s not really appealing for a guy who holds all his cards and isn’t looking for a contract for a while.

I’m also pretty confused on why Nemec would be a target he’s similar to a situation that you’re dealing with now where there will be immense growing pains and you aren’t guaranteed that he hits a level to pin him up based off of his draft position. Because the results haven’t been great at the NHL level.

Sorry not all of this was directed towards your comment - mainly the first paragraph just wanted to roll everything in to one post.

Power is not on his ELC.
We need to forget Powers draft position becuase it is irrelevant now.

My hope would be to convince a rebuilding team that you have a 22yo young stud locked up for 7 more years. Power and Benson? Power and Peterka? Probably right that nothing but Power + the 2025 1st gets McAvoy, but spitballing here.
If we just ignore what the fanbase would say wouldn’t the shrewd move be to trade Thompson and Dahlin? Buffalo won’t be a serious contender in the next 10 years. They need serious talents not mature NHL stars.

Thats my take, but apparently no one in Buffalo agrees because "we cant stomach another tank/rebuild" so they've convinced themselves theyre a few moves away.

@Beerz

I thought you guys said there is absolutely zero interest for new prospects in the system after 2025?

I can speak for myself just fine....

Not interested in acquiring picks doesnt mean we are trading them away haphazardly. Especially if it's a top 5 pick

Because if need for RD via trade. We make s trsde thrn use thus pick to replace what was traded

Of course. However, nothing wrong with tagging a respected member like Beerz for a second opinion. Especially in a unclear subject like this

I am all for trading this pick. But.. top 10 picks are rarely traded.

We may have no choice but to use it.
Most top 10 picks, that were known st the time being top 10, that were traded outright for players were generally bad trades for the team that gave up the 1st round pick.

If the pick falls straight on Martone, I'd give you Mailloux, Habs first or Flames depending on which is highest, PIT 2nd and Habs 3rd.

Idk was thinking Peterka, Benson and 1st overall 2025 would be to much to pass up

Well then they need to find another Faber.

That’s the issue. Value is great and all, but nobody moves the specific type of player that you’re targeting because then they would need to instantly replace them and then they would be in the situation Buffalo is.

I don’t think Buffalo really needs to go that drastic anyways. They should try and find a couple of RHD who are good partners for Dahlin/Power. Carlo probably should’ve been a conversation they engaged in.

Did you read the OP? The point would be to get a player who helps now, not a collection of inferior prospects.

OP could have saved himself a lot of time doing this if he simply wanted one fo these and no other discussions around the topic. Which of the following will that pick bring back that would make the Sabres competitive today?

RHD 1998 DOB and under:

So draft the top ranked RHD with that likely top 5 pick. You guys arent competing anytime soon.

I think it needs a blow up, but ill play the none rebuilding game. Retool via McKenna.

2025 1st - If you win, you go for Schaefer and trade Byram or Power for a RHD. If not, trade down for Mrtka or Hensler assuming you HAVE to draft a D with that pick.

2026 1st - suck for McKenna! Hes worth it!

Ugh capwages is sad for the Sabres. Paying Skinner until 2030. What losers. This team isnt close to being good.

No.
