ON Mac's solo rush in the last minute of play he splits the D but drifts to the right. As a righty himself he's facing Ottingers glove side. I haven't seen a close in replay but it looked like he went to the blocker side and the shot went wide (?)

OR was he trying to split the pillows? I didn't see a deke or two made....

If you have a replay frame or 2 to share, please do...Tell me what I missed here...
He definitely went blocker, just as Necas and Coyle before him both went far-side blocker.

The Avs must have seen numbers or scouted something regarding Oettinger blocker side.

I would also like to take this time to say Sam Malinski looks so, so much better than Erik Johnson.

It's painful watching EJ attempt to move around.

Getting shots through. Getting back quickly on more than one occasion to retrieve the puck.

Even the one play he messed up where the puck went through his legs he was able to get back and not make it worse.

Solid.

I mean guy has 3 goals in the series. Bad game. But overall he's not the problem.
Yeah true....Cale is a problem right now though....he hasn't been very dangerous yet this series. They watched ALL the film on him. They aren't biting on anything he does. Need dynamic Cale to adjust quickly.

Malsinki is also being HEAVILY sheltered with home ice matchups. Playing ok so far though.

Our touch has been off, we are turning the wrong way to receive passes, can't hit a tape to tape pass for our lives, pucks are bouncing fo the stick - it's just self inflicted wounds. We come out here and start getting right we can get these guys - Stars seemed to be low on gas late in that period

I thought he was trying to slide it over to Nuke.

Why are Malinski and Girard seemingly on the ice together as a pairing sometimes?

Bednar is playing that old 90s NHL game where you pair a small fast guy with a big guy?

Malinski towers over Girard but he's not exactly a tall boy.

Bednar is putting Lindgren-Manson out against Marchment-Duchene-Seguin every chance he gets.

He’s been waaaaaaaaay off since the end of the second in game 2. His third period was God-awful and he’s been listless ever since. Making dumb plays, not skating, not really battling for pucks. He’s coasting when the puck is nowhere near him and passing up shots. He’s most definitely hurt.
Something.

How so, though? He and Girard have started more shifts in the D zone than Makar and Toews have. Unless you think he's only playing against their 4th line?

I'll have to check the shift charts later, but it feels like they haven't faced the Stars heavy forecheckers much if at all.

I don't want to sound like I'm giving him grief though, he's been ok, skated well, and had a nice shot earlier. Him and G did lose a corner battle pretty easily to set up a Duchene chance in the circle though.

Avs did a really nice job of keeping Dallas to the outside in the 2nd. They got some cycles going but they rarely generated good chances off it. More of the same next period
