“The more athletic of the two goalies coming out of the O, Leenders is a swift netminder who constantly moves around his crease with almost acrobatic-like saves at times. His ability to scan, recover, and seal off those tight spots along his posts makes him a tough goalie to beat. However, similarly to Carter George, Leenders is a bit undersized for a goaltender and can also struggle with consistency. The tools are there, but the worry for Leenders is actually finding the path to put it all together” ~ Curtis Rines, OHL Scout

Ryerson Leenders is a top-tier goaltender who has the potential to be an NHL All-Star in the near future. He has all of the tools, he is composed between the pipes, and has tremendous movement in the crease. Leenders has big potential and, on the right team, could flourish in the NHL.

It’s always difficult to predict how well a goalie will do in the NHL since there are so many factors that can turn a little-known netminder into a starter. However, Leenders has all the tools to be a number-one goalie in the future. He reads the ice very well and has a high level of intelligence when it comes to predicting the play much like a strong two-way center. While he will need time to work on becoming more consistent game-to-game, he’s certainly worth the investment.

EP: Rated as a B

Plays a quiet, controlled game and forces rebounds into smart areas
when he’s locked in. Solid play-reading ability bodes well for success
at the next level.

For a goaltender with an average-sized frame, Leenders
surprisingly takes up a lot of net. His stance is balanced
and narrow when the puck is worked around the
zone, which gives him excellent access to his edges
and keeps him patient on odd-man rush attempts. He
rarely makes the first move, and can make last-second
adjustments with his edgework.
