I don't think that relationship is fraying. I can only speculate, but I believe the absence of any decent alternative is what's holding up the firing. Snow realizes that if makes a failed coaching change that his butt is on the line. So he's stalling. For all we know a move to Cronin or Weight will result in a player's mutiny.

I think Snow needs Capuano more than the other way around, they both know it, and Capuano is using that reality to flout Snow.

As opposed to a keeping a failing coach? I'm not really following you this time, sorry.

Assuming that NYI wants a forward in return, then Jason Zucker. Give your team some speed. Only has 10 points so far, but he's had a ton of chances. Hitting posts, puck rolling on breakaways, etc.

If you want a Dman, it could be a different, more complex conversation.

you guys have to be sick with what Strome is turning out to be right now.

Tierney > Cizikas playmaking wise, but both are strong PKers with good motors. The value is probably close, I just don't know if NYI would be looking for a center in return.

I disagree that their value is close, but I totally understand why you wouldn't have interest.

Uhh what? Eberle is atleats productive. Strome is sturggling to even be an NHLer. Id offer like Musil + pick. We just got rid of Yak and now have a roster with mostly productive players who deserve to be there and are not "wait and see" guys. Strome would be in the AHL given Edmontons bottom 6 currently. Tough to tell if hell ever be more than a Cody Hodgson

Eberle is productive, but I think the idea was to get rid of Eberle's salary for someone much cheaper who has potential.

The Oilers have a ton of cap space right now, but Draisatl needs to be re-signed at year end, and then McDavid will get all the monies next year (seriously, would anyone be shocked if he demanded $10M in his 2nd contract? Nobody could argue he isn't worth it). Eberle is still under contract at $6M for a year beyond that.

That said, he still has much more value than Strome (IMO).

Yes. I think the alternative may be worse than a coach failing in a normal way.

I'm not trying to defend Capuano as a coach. But I think he may be, by a good margin, the most competent and likable person on the coaching staff and front office.

Something around Tatar from Detroit? Tatar is also struggling so far this year and they have similar contracts.

Actually, CBJ might be a great partner for Strome. They have a lot of young wingers waiting to break into the NHL.

Ahh...not what I was thinking. I was thinking a Hartnell/Jenner type deal. I believe that NYI wants to be relevant right now, and get someone on the team who can conceivably play and mesh with JT. Failing that, they want a kick in the pants in the middle six.

I don't know that BUFF needs ANOTHER C, though. They've got Eichel, ROR, Reinhart already. Apparently Strome is best at C. Don't know that they want to be switching Reinhart to wing when he is having his sophomore troubles.

I think that the big fear in NYI land is that Tavares might leave in FA if he doesn't see any talent around him.

For Strome? No.

I love the Sharks, they may end up becoming my favorite team with the mess the Islanders have been, but the Isles and Sharks are not good trade partners.

Gotcha. I'd tend to agree, we're an older team, realistically the only trade I could see fitting would be Donskoi for Strome, and here in SJ we love our Donkey.

Let's just trade all our young players for garbage returns. Making sure Jack Capuano is as happy as he can possibly be is priority #1 for this team.

I know it is not ideal and I don't know in depth which is the position of greatest need for the Isles' team and prospect pool, but were I Montreal's GM i'd make available all of Lehkonen (LW, RW), Scherbak (RW), McCarron (C, RW) and Juulsen (RD) as bases to a deal for Strome alongside any of our lesser prospects (IE no Sergachev). Those I mentioned are exempt from the draft for Vegas and are good prospects with good potential that would help the Islanders reclaim at least some long-term value for Strome.

If your needs are more immediate, I'd also be willing to trade a guy like Danault as part of a package for Strome.

While keeping those things in mind and seeing as I believe the Isles are fairly set now and in the future on D and talent-wise at forward in the future, here is the deal that I'd propose and think could work trying to give quality to get quality.

McCarron + Scherbak FOR Strome

I would do Strome for Duclair. Strome needs to be at center and I just don't see him making it here as one with guys like Barzal and Beavillier coming up.

By the way, can Duclair play right wing at all or his he strictly a left winger?
