I never look at stats because they don't give an accurate read on an individual player.
I did check your link and was surprised he was only a -13 but holy crap batman is that what we want from our #2 center.

He's also our number 1 center in regards to points this season. Is that what we want from our #2?

gawd, part of me wishes to read he rarely works on them, at least then there would be a legit reason for being so awful on them:laugh:

I don`t get it, I have him on the dot in NHL17 and he`s lights freaking out:yo:

I'm not a big faceoff guy like most, but if they allow him not to work on it,that's on them.

That's the best description for Spooner--a power play specialist. He is a liability 5 on 5.

I hope the Bruins can move him at the deadline. He is an RFA this summer and should not get another Bruins contract.

Wow. Pretty harsh. But in today's NHL it is hard to find players who can put the puck in the net. Boston has a large number of players that can't find the back of the net. So Spooner might have some issues, but he is a value added player.

49 points last year and a -9
27 points this year and a -5

I think that he will get a contract and sign for reasonable dollars with the Bruins. He can work with the best in the business with Bergy on the team. Pracitice and patience will pay off for Spooner.

I don't think I'd mind if he spent all his 5v5 time buried on the 4th line. Use him as a pure PP specialist.

Did I see Spooner getting a chunk of time on one of PK's today?

Pretty sure I did. If so, that's a major Cassidy change.

Not sure if TSN stats include today's game but he's something like 20th on B's for avg SHTOI.

Interesting.

Unless they think JFK is ready to make the jump to the NHL next year. Then, he is a trade chip for help on Krejci's wing or Krug's partner.

I wouldn't call it a massive mistake....he has potential but he's not consistent in his effort

I guess a lot depends on what Spooner will be looking for in a new contract- I'd like to keep him, but a multi-year deal on too much per to get the same thing we are getting out of him now makes me feel could be worth trading. The B's management probably have an idea of what he will be asking for come June so that may figure into anything going forward.

I would like to see how he does under Cassidy, it's clear he didn't mesh with what Julien was teaching maybe the change will release the Spoon we've all been waiting for. He has the talent to be a great player.

He reminds me a lot of Marc Savard in his youth. Defensive liability, close to elite if not elite offensive skills. Particularly the way he plays the wall on the PP.

Savard became a very good all around player after he got here, but was in his late 20s or early 30s, I forget.

Spooner played a great all around game last night.

Trading Spooner is a massive mistake...If you move anyone it's Krejci.

Eh, I'd say trading him just to get rid of him, or exposing him in the expansion draft is a massive mistake.

I think his value around the league is low, so better to keep him. Sign him to a three year deal at a cap hit of just under $2.0m per year, and with no restrictions. I don't think he gets of offer sheet, so we have all the negotiating power.

I've asked this question before to people on here, watching what Gagner is doing in Columbus (he's playing low 5 on 5 mins, but is a main cog in their PP), but would people be opposed to signing him to be a PP specialist? Basically he plays 3rd line role but is mainly on the team to run the PP.

There are many defense that have this role, but seemingly few forwards besides maybe Matt Moulson, Sam Gagner and Spooner.

I think for the right price it's worth keeping him for the PP, but I don't think he's a must keep player at this point.

Yeah it's very possible, but I think his biggest problem is between his ears, not behind the bench.

He says the right things but doesn't always go out and do them.

Yeah, he's worth keeping at a low price for a short-ish term- 2 years at 1.5 or thereabouts? If he can develop into a reliable day in day out player then we have something, if not, a short term, low cost "prove it" sort of deal would be great. If that is something he isn't willing to do (or arbitration looks to give him more if were to go that way) then move him.
