Value of: Ryan Spooner for RHD

The Bruins signing Backes has made Ryan Spooner expendable and they have an obvious need for a RHD to play with Chara. I don't think Spooner is a chip that gets a top 2 D but he has some value. He's an excellent skater with slick passing skills. He is a weapon on the power play and in transition but certainly needs some sheltering because his slight frame makes him a liability in the defensive zone. He is a lock for 45 plus points, likely more for a team that transitions faster than the bruins. He is also a bargain at $950k.

I think he could also be moved for a RW so keep that in mind also. Thoughts?

Id rather see something like this.....

To Anaheim
Krejci

To Boston
Fowler

Or

To St. Louis
Krejci
2nd round pick

To Boston
Shattenkirk

The OP asked the value of Spooner, not Krejci.

And that St. Louis trade is brutal for Boston. I wouldn't trade Krejci for Shattenkirk one-for-one, let alone having to add a 2nd.

How about to Chicago for Trevor van riemsdyk?

He may not be the most attractive piece but he's solid and signed for this year and next at 825k

He is a "lock" for 45+ points? He is 24, and has 78 career points!

Last year was his first full year playing with some duds and he got 49 points as a 3rd line center. Remember this is the ultra defensive Bruins, no gambling allowed. Put Spooner on a team that lets him free wheel and he could be up in the late 50s. Just look at Reilly Smith, Seguin, Wheeler guys who leave this style and are highley skilled get a new lease on life.

The first few years he was basically filling in on a veteran team behind Bergeron and Krejci, Kelly and Soderberg. His icetime was limited and the Bruins were in the mix those yrs so if you know Julien like Bruins fans do he was sitting a lot. You make one mistake as a young guy, go to Siberia do not pass go.

Get back to,us when he has had a couple of 45+ pt. seasons. Or get a better understanding of what a " lock" is.

Dan Girardi is definitely available. We'll add a 3rd to get Spooner too. :sarcasm:

Or you can just give us a Bergeron autographed puck and a life sized cardboard cutout of Chara.

He had 11 pts in 23 games his first year (39 per 82), 18 in 29 his second (51 per 82) and 49 in 80 last year, all while averaging ~15 mins a night on a Boston team where his style of play is discouraged and players like him are run out of town.

He is a lock for 45+ points on any team in the NHL.

So now you are using McDavid as a comp for Spooner.

This thread has gotten really silly.

You're the one who made it silly. The guy has been at 2.30 p/60 since his call up last year. He scored at a 55 pt pace in 2014/15 and had 49 points last year playing 14 min a game for a coach that discourages his style of play. To argue semantics on a point as silly as "let's see him do it for a few more years" is totally asinine.

Fowler is a LHD not a RHD as the OP suggest. And besides Krejci makes like $3.25 million more then Fowler if Ducks GM Bob Murray moves Fowler it's to shed salary not take more on.
