wtf does swinging a stick at someones head have to do with throwing a body check? You're completely out to lunch.
It's a comment on how certain parts of the game that were once considered acceptable in hockey are no longer part of today's NHL.

Saying "a few years ago this would have been fine" is dumb—it doesn't matter what was acceptable then. Now, you simply can't make the head the primary point of contact.

Sucks that Ice Capades ended its run and its fans got interested in the NHL.

This incident is not a function of a player looking to make a dirty hit, rather it's a case of a player lacking awareness and getting hurt. Happened to Carlo earlier in the week and the outrage-addicted crew were ready to crucify Benn.

Hockey is a fast physical sport. Big strong dudes such as Reaves are known quantities. Play stupid games near them, win stupid prizes.

Imagine if these people had seen Scott Stevens play - - they’d be demanding attempted murder charges be brought against Stevens for his hits in Kariya and Lindros.

Nurse with his head down stupidly watching the puck on his stick. A few years ago Reaves would have been lauded for that hit. Now when players make stupid mistakes the pitchforks come out and the crowd is ready to hang the hitter.
That hit has been illegal since 2010. It’s closer to a full generation than it is to “a few years ago”.

You never answered the question.

Who was supposed to fight him on the ice? Did you want Connor Brown going at him?

Anyone who was on the ice at the time should have immediately dropped the gloves to fight Reaves.

They didn’t have to beat up Reaves, just fight him to send the message that it’s unacceptable to hit one of your star players. Even if they had to eat a few punches it would have been worth it.

If you’ve never played hockey before, imagine if another guy came up and groped your girlfriend. Even if you’re smaller would you not get in his face and throw a few punches?

You absolutely CANNOT just stand there and do nothing.

But but old time hockey! Scott Stevens! Keep your head up!
I’ve been a fan since 1980, before some meathead says I’m “new”, and I’d far rather have seen the skill, players who had their lives and careers ruined by headshots play than huge head hits.

Stevens would have been intelligent enough to play within the rules if they’d existed, before that gets brought up as well.

You are out of your mind.

You want a bunch of forwards who never fight to drop their gloves and get their face caved in against a guy 30 pounds heavier and a tough as nails player. That's a good way to get two Oiler players sent to the IR.

I did play hockey and your example involving groping is super weird man.

I bet Nurse is fine not having anyone drop the gloves there.

The only guy dressed to handle Reaves was the guy he headshot.

If that headshot is on someone else with Nurse on the ice, the gloves are dropped instantly.

If I heard correctly Nurse was laughing and joking at the end of the game.

Reaves went to the Oilers dressing room in the 3rd to apologize to Nurse for the hit.

Reaves sucks as a player and more than likely shouldn't be in the league, but this is split seconds apart. There's no way Reaves saw Nurse lower himself (reaching for the puck) and was like "f*** yeah, hit to the head on you"

Both players changed their stance at seemingly the same time a second before contact.

Hopefully what I heard is true and if so, Nurse should be back for the game on Monday, maybe if that's the end of the road trip he skips that just for the extra day of rest and evaluation to make sure things are all good.
