Kind of looks like it's a normal hit except for his shoulder getting Nurse in the head.

Doesn't seem to jump, or elbow, but does extend the elbow to explode into him after contact.

I'm guessing the 5 and kicked out is possibly all he gets unless the angles in the replay don't do the hit justice.

He barely made any contact to Nurse's body and mostly contacts the head. That's not a "normal" hit. By rule 48.1 that's an illegal hit to the head.

It won't be but the suspension should start at 5 games.

it depends on if its a hearing or an in person hearing.

This is exactly the point.

What's the purpose of fighting?

Players say it's to 'stick up for your teammate'. Do you only stick up for your teammate if the guy you fight is smaller than you?

Next time they play each other, assuming Reaves is in the lineup, the Oilers will call up some guy from the minors and say we sent our message, and send the guy back down. I personally don't believe in the argument that it's sticking up for your teammate when you force one guy to fight on behalf of your team for dirty or clean hits.

It makes no sense.
Why bring up someone to fight Reaves? He's a non factor. Just be extra physical against your team's players and actually do something on the PP if he acts like a clown again. Reaves is one of 4 or 5 guys in the league that is only good at fighting. Give me an Olivier type over Reaves all day long.

Yeah, that's my point.

I'm not saying anyone should fight. Just stop doing it after hits all together. It's ridiculous when you pick and choose when to fight. It undermines the entire argument for fighting after hits.

It's fine most of the time IMO but you don't have tiny guys taking on monsters like Reaves. Had Reaves hit anyone else Nurse would've stepped up and lost but hopefully get a few shots in.

For those that didn’t watch

What happened after?
Was it a chippy game after this?
Did Reaves fight after this?
Reaves got punted. No it wasn't physical the Oilers aren't built for that and our toughest healthy player was hurt from the hit. Had Evander Kane been healthy things could've been interesting.

But doesn't that undermine the whole point?

Why do the small guys have to fight but the big guys don't? Also, what message is being sent by forcing a player to fight exclusively bigger guys?

f***ing plug who's awful at hockey, maybe the worst player in the league, trying to get his spotlight for the season. Dirty af but I'm sure his pal in DoPs will give him just a game.
If he gets a light supsension that would blow my mind. Leafs fans don't even want this guy suiting up throw the book at him please!

And yet it will not surprise me if Parros goes light on him in comparison to say Morgan Rielly's suspension, who was clean as a whistle prior.

man that's a really bad one

usually the checks to the head posted here are filled with hyperbole about 10+ game suspensions but this seems like one that could actually deserve it, that's a ton of force in a full blown driveby

not long enough unless it is a ticket out of the NHL much like that disgusting human being named Raffi Torres... repeat offender, actively states publicly that there is no longer enough physicality in the NHL... Reeves intended to harm Nurse here, he did target his head with his shoulder. What a sick act of violence. They have been trying to eliminate this hit for 10 years now...Clearly the desire to eliminate it from the NHL perspective is clearly not true...
I agree. I think that the NHL should have dose out the hefty punishment from the hit by a LA King player receiving only 3 games suspension for the head hit to Boeser. I warned them to start getting serious about this hit by hitting them hard, 10 games suspension for this type of hit. If the NHL is trying to get illegal hit to the head out of the game, start doing that and they blew the opportunity and here we are and they still haven't done that yet. It indicates to us that they are not exactly serious by handing out 3 games. Watch for them to repeat this type until they start handing out long suspension. So we'll see how serious they are with Reeves.

I hope Nurse hasn't had concussions before, that looks like full speed direct contact to side of the brain. The stuff grade 3s are made of.
I really don’t think he’s ever had one. Which means this could really change him when he comes back.

Probably one of the easiest calls ever. The principle point of contact wasn’t just the head, it was only the head. Lol

Unfortunate result, but it looked like Reaves was trying to deliver a clean hit. 1-3 games is my guess but I honestly don't see this being as malicious as people say. He'll pay a price for the head contact but I don't see it as predatory or intentional. Still, Reaves' history won't earn him the benefit of the doubt with DoPS.
