Proposal: Ryan Pulock to Montreal

I hate to be that guy but if Nelson turned down 3 years from the Isles, the Habs aren’t getting him for 3 years. My guess is he’s going to shakedown Colorado/Minnesot/WPG for a 4-5 year deal. Granlund would be the smart pickup. Even a defensively responsible quality 3C to play with Laine and Demidov in the 2C spot wouldn’t be a bad move. Let the Russian be a freak while Laine gets to be lost away from the offensive zone.
I didn't know term had been the issue there but I also sorta feel like he's not coming to Canada anyways. Just someone older for 2-3 years in any case but I feel like the UFA options drop off pretty hard after those two. And honestly Newhook has looked okay there recently although I think ideally he's a 3rd liner long term

As a MTL fan, I think I would do this. I really like Pulock and think he could be a good partner for Hutson.
Hutson Pulock
Guhle Reinbacher
Matheson Carrier
That would improve the D core considerably and give Reinbacher a bit of Time in the AHL if he needs it.
Seems like a pretty fair offer on both sides too
I'm certainly moving Matheson as well in this scenario though. bottom pairing some combination of Struble, Xhekaj and Reinbacher/Mailloux

I would pull the trigger on that.

Pulock gets a bad rap around here because he plays tough minutes on a team that hasn't been good recently and currently has the 8th-worst offense stats-wise, so Pulock doesn't get to shine as much as he would on another team.

In a better context, Pulock would likely be much better.

Kind of like the Cam Fowler situation, though I don't think we'd see as dramatic of a "before/after" effect.

But yeah, a defenseman like Pulock would be the type of guy the Canadiens will look to acquire in the offseason.

Oh, and a center like Horvat would be a great get too. Maybe package the two and we give some more picks/prospects?
That's going to costs 14 million in caproom and crazy bunch of picks. Horvat and Pulock are 30 and 31.

Lou Lamoriello's answer:
"Why yes! Ryan's already being driven to the airport as we speak."

The suggested deal is too generous.

This said, Pulock can be had. A deal could certainly be made this summer that makes sense for both sides.
I'll happily go 2 2nd rounders instead of a 1st if the general consensus is I've overvalued him, just surprised given how coveted defensive RD seem to be

I think the final offer was 7x3 or 7.5x3 for Brock. He’ll be the top UFA center available from the sparse list we’ve seen. As for his destinations, the only one I could see him going to is Winnipeg if he wants to play somewhat close to where he grew up but that’s about it with Canada. He’ll be good for 2-3 like you said but the last year(s) (assuming he gets more) he’ll show his age eventhough his game has stayed consistent once he turned 30.
I remember the Newhook trade drama. Similar to Colton being hyped up to be some future piece that just hasn’t been as advertised. They’re both complimentary pieces but not top 6 forwards like they were supposed to be.
Another mistake from you guys was trading Sergachev and Romanov for essentially nothing. They would have been your 1/2 LHD for the past few seasons and both were home grown.

Lou will take Ryan back home if the 1st turns into a 2nd. He will however send Scott Mayfield in his place.

I can wait out the alzheimers

Sergachev was a disaster obviously but honestly as much as I liked Romanov and the trade hasn't worked out they just don't really miss him. I would take both Guhle and Hutson on the left side over him and Struble brings the same kind of physicality albeit not nearly as good. I'm losing faith he can stay healthy enough to be a player but man two years ago Dach looked like he was going to be a complete horse. Bad luck will happen, I am really happy with where the D-core is headed it's hard to feel too upset about those deals at this point

True. Veteran RHDs who can solidify your middle 6 defensive corps and chip in 20+ points don't grow on trees. And Pulock's shot is among the best out there.

I could imagine that NYI management would be more inclined to shoot for a wider hockey trade.

Something like...

D Pulock, F Duclair, and RFA D Bolduc
for
F Anderson, F Beck, D Engstrom, and a 2nd rounder.

It's tough but Montreal maybe force to make a deal like this. Give up some of their farm depth and extra picks to fill a need.

I think Beck, Engstrom and our 2nd for Pulock alone is enough.

Pretty hard no on that. I would rather Anderson than Duclair, both deals suck but he at least has found a way to be useful that Duclair would not in Montreal, and Beck + Engstrom + 2nd has quite a bit more value to me than a mid 1st. Sorry won't be swindled by stocking the team with Quebecois

If not for NYI telling me Pulock is no good, I'd offer Mailloux and a pick without hesitation.

Reinbacher is a no-no. Provided he's healthy, he has all the tools to develop into a first pair defender.
I think Reinbacher would have to be the centre piece, wouldn’t add much more though

For Pulock? Zero chance. If Reinbacher is on the table we're talking him++ for Dobson

And that could be a realistic target.

It's unknown what route NYI management is going to take on Dobson, who is a fine, point-producing, righty shot Dman with strong skating abilities and an inate offensive understanding of the game. There are problems on the backside, but I'm pretty certain a number of teams would look at them and think, "Oh, we can fix that".

But Dobson is Lamoriello's most pertinent piece of business this offseason, in what is a long list of pertinent business.

From what I've seen throughout his career, getting Dobson on that Habs' blueline would be money in the bank. He'd be doing everything Bouchard has in Edmonton - and is prolly the more active skater.

And I write that knowing that Hutson's minutes would not magically be afforded to him.

Dobson can simply put players in motion while having the regular mobility and wherewithal to either lead the rush or come in late as the 4th attacker.

And something tells me that Montreal's key offensive contributors can turn that into gold.

if they decide to move Dobson there will be plenty of interest around the league @ the draft timeframe .

its good to see that some hab fans understand the value of a guy like Pulock
