Feels like jumping the gun a bit from the Habs end. Yes, they're on the cusp...but they're still just entering the beginning of some sort of "window". I think it'd make more sense from their end, to just save their assets to either keep building up the youth, or package for something else...or someone else younger if they really do feel the need to accelerate things. Though really...why not just bring back Savard as a continued stopgap and wait to see what you get out of guys like Reinbacher, Mailloux, etc.? Sure Pulock would be an upgrade on Savard...but is that really worth the cost in assets and significant cap commitment to an aging and already "slowing down" player like that, given where the Habs are at in their process?
Just feels like the sort of move that backfires in trying to "accelerate the timeline".
And then from the Isles end...it might've made sense back when the Habs were expected to be picking a lot higher in the 1st. But as it stands, i don't think a mid-1st in that package gets it done. If Pulock were shopped, i think other teams would beat out that offer...even in spite of him getting older and slowing down. The market is just so starved for big RHD who can handle tougher minutes. Obviously his trade protections might factor in and eliminate some suitors...but i still think there'd be plenty of options that could beat that package.
