Dobson is at best a “B” unit PPQB and is often gets outworked/outmuscled in his own zone. For what he’s going to cost based on his inflated numbers from last season, his size/handedness, and draft position, they are better off spending that cap space on scoring. Just look at their GF/GA, their problem is not defense, it’s scoring.
Barzal would be a non starter even if Boeser was extended with that package. That would also be a 3 steps forward and 6 steps back type of move for the Isles.

Yeah that looks realistic-ish. Along the lines of the Seth Jones deal which is probably the closest comp for what you can expect for Dobson I guess.
Because Barzal is out long term, the power play is horrendous and we need more offense up front.
Because he likely wants 7-8 million a year and it makes more sense for the isles to allocate that money into the top 6. With Palmieri likely leaving in FA, Barzal out long term and the power play at the bottom of the league the team needs another solid forward up front.
He’s been solid and i can’t really explain why Isles fans have wanted to dump him for this long. I guess the worst thing you can say about him is that he has a lethal shot but can’t really use it as well as we’d like but hes a solid defenseman, think his game will age well. Easy second pair guy who won’t be overwhelmed if he has to play first pair.
We have little need for a Dman with recent additions and the prospects coming. What we need is a playmaking winger

Dobson, Nelson, Lee and a 1st to get back EP40, Soucy, Reaves and a later 1st? Remove Reaves and add atleast something useful from Toronto instead. Just won’t cut it.
