Yes, would take one more piece, probably Sillinger. I can’t see Lou dealing within the division thoughI think they want current impact players

So you still need a defensively responsible 1RD for Z and then you also need a defensively responsible 2LD for Dobson. This creates more problems than it solves. Columbus can 100% sit this one out.I mean...he still doesn't play half the game. Our RHD is in a sad state right now.
Honestly everyone raved about Fabbro with Z but I think he'd be the perfect partner for Mateychuk if we keep him.
Return of.......The Sweetner. All deals involving Islanders defensemen come with a complimentary Swedish winger named Pierre Engvall.
Not unless its acquiring an aging veteran from NJ on an expiring contract.Yes, would take one more piece, probably Sillinger. I can’t see Lou dealing within the division though
The Isles would be absolutely insane to move this guy. Big. Mobile. RH shot. Talented. Unless something is going down where he absolutely hates being there, why the hell would Lou even consider it? Even if Lou is giving up and wants to re-tool the team, Dobson would be one of the guys you keep.

Why in the world would they trade Dobson for a top 6 forward?

The bolded is 100% the question that no one wants to address in this thread.
Pulock for top 6, Dobson for top lineWhy in the world would they trade Dobson for a top 6 forward?
It's been addressed in other threads. He hasn't been as good since Roy came in, offensive numbers are down and he's frequently to blame for defensive breakdowns or missed assignments. Since he's been out the team has been on a tear, and although it's too early to know if this would be the right move it starts to make you think about the possibilities. The bolded is 100% the question that no one wants to address in this thread.
Or, as Islanders fans have been posting all year on your board, due to his large point totals last year he and his agent and probably looking for a very large contract, and his overall play is very likely to not warrant it.Maybe, just maybe, the people that spend time with the guy and watch him play every night have come to a different conclusion about him than those who look up his height and weight and what hand he uses on NHL.com.
The point totals and mpg dont tell the whole story with him. Dobson is the kind of guy that you trade and it can likely blow up in your face… but if the Isles can get a Seth Jones type haul for him (maybe even more), then you need to weigh that against the costs of signing him long term - both in $$$ and opportunity.
IMO the isles need more help on the top line than they do on the right side right now. I’d rather trade Pulock… but I can understand why the reports about Dobson have come out.
Pulock for top 6, Dobson for top line
Agreed. There's a serious contract decision coming up and there is reservation that he'll live up to the numbers he's likely looking for. It's been addressed in other threads. Don't think he's a bad player, seems more likely it's a system issue and maybe he picks it up. But he's due for an extension in the offseason, potentially a big one, so we'll have to see what happens.
I mean yeah, I said in the post that you need to weigh the value of the return against the cost of signing him longterm. If he were to get the 8x8 deal everyone has been projecting for though, that will play more like an 8 x 6.3 by year three of the deal. That's the kind of thing that keeps you up at night if he actually takes that next step we've been waiting for him to do for the last 3 seasons.Or, as Islanders fans have been posting all year on your board, due to his large point totals last year he and his agent and probably looking for a very large contract, and his overall play is very likely to not warrant it.
No one has said he's a bad player, but you have to admit a lot of this is contract related, and the fear he won't be worth his next deal.
What will Montreal offer if Demidov, Suzuki, Caufield and Hutson are automatically off the table (not saying anything regards to Dobson comparing in value to any of them) that would be worthwhile for the Islanders? Cap dumps, overhyped prospects and mid round picks aren't going to get it done. The Isles need a proven top six scorer that's not 35 years old and is responsible defensively. If Dobes is on the market at the draft. Kent Hughes needs to make an offer
Totally agree, but with the new cap projections is he looking at 8x8 anymore?I mean yeah, I said in the post that you need to weigh the value of the return against the cost of signing him longterm. It's hard to say about his new contract. The 8x8 projections were mostly before the season coming off a 70 point year, and I honestly always thought that was low. The same number kept coming from all of our beat writers though, almost in a way like they knew this was the offer out there. This year however he was pacing for 45-ish before he went down, and then shortly after the new cap figures were released. I could see part of the reason his name is out there being that his agent and Lou are very far apart on a number.Totally agree, but with the new cap projections is he looking at 8x8 anymore?
And for the acquiring team it's even a bigger issue because unless they are sending a player already on a fair or full market deal, they could be trading cost controlled assets and then signing him to a possible deal he might not live up to (or maybe he does, that's the risk). That's an expensive purchase.
Honestly not commenting about him as a player, because I bet almost every team would love to add him, just saying there's discussion that each team would need to have regarding his next contract. The Isles are obviously wondering about it as well, as if he's available it can't be solely because they want more offense from a forward.

The other reason he's available is because TDA has stepped in off the street and looked 10x better than Dobson ever did this year. I think I mentioned this in the OP but the isles picked up 3 defensemen who can play in the NHL over the last couple of weeks in TDA, Boqvist, and Perunovich. None of them have looked out of place, and while it's probably not a great idea to trade your potential 1D because a couple of throwaway defensemen have looked good for 5 games, it's definitely another straw on the camels back.
Two of them in Perunovich and Boqvist are RFAs, and I think Lou would rather not put them through waivers when Mayfield, Pulock, and Dobson come back. So that means someone has to go. I figured it would be Pulock to WPG, but if any of the reports are accurate it seems like it's going to be Dobson
No for the bolded name right off the bat. Really wouldn’t work for the Isles honestly. Futures and including defensively inept defensemen on a roster with too many bottom pairing ones just wouldn’t work out. Realistically a top 6 scoring threat that can benefit the core (under 28) is what’s needed. The Oilers could use both, plus sending Pulock or Dobson to the west would limit the damage they could do to NYI in the future. Is a futures-laden package- say our 2025 or 2026 1st, 2024 first rounder Sam O'Reilly, and more picks/prospects enough? We can also include John Klingberg, who could be even more vet depth this year as he recovers from his year-long layoff. Lou might like him enough to extend him by Game 82.

If I'm reading this correctly that you'd want both, then this definitely not in the realm of what the islanders would entertain. Would prefer to send Pulock for less than Dobson personally - I'd prefer to move him for futuresJust one lol.
Another poster offered Slakovsky, Evans, and Mailloux. Thoughts?Only thing that Montreal could give to make something work is Slafkovsky.
