4.8M for what he brings.... he's a bargin.
You dont like Slaf contract, that's fair, but that has nothing to do with Matheson and your initial statement
Upselling a $4.8m 3LD really isn't the way to go here. Isles don't need/want a $5m cap hit on the back end for another bottom pairing one. I'm sure you can offer him to one of the other 30 franchises across the league though.

Just trying to wrap my head around moving Dobson but keeping DeAngelo.
It’s crazy I know. Tony D has legitimately looked better in the role.

I think that you have to think of it less like betting on Tony D and more like he gives you a cushion to make a deal to fix other deficiencies. Isles have at least 9 D men in the system that I feel confident running out on any night. It makes sense to use that to your advantage, rather than start losing a couple for nothing.

I'm not upselling him... I actually don't want Dobson in MTL. i'm correcting you misguided views

Misguided because I don’t think the Isles need a $4.8m 3rd pairing LD even if his contract expires in 2026? Yes he’s overpaid and not worth the contract.

...please list the teams in which Matheson is on the 3rd Pairing...
He’s not playing over Pelech or Romanov on the Isles on the left side, thus making him a $4.8m 3rd pairing LD and even then I’d rather see Isaiah George get a shot. I’ve said no to Mike Matheson to the Isles in a few deals before on here. With the original post of Slaf/Matheson/1st, I replied with no bolding AND underlining Matheson. He doesn’t help the Isles in a point of need which is another proven goal scorer that’s of a similar age to Barzal.

Boeser (extended) and Soucy for Dobson and Engvall
No interest in Soucy.

With all of the recent D pickups by the Islanders (Perunovich, Deangelo, Boqvist) there will be a roster crunch as the team starts to get healthy. They've all played pretty well so far (especially Deangelo), and with the probable impending losses of Nelson and Palmieri after this season we'll need to plug those holes. Islanders never get free agents, so right now it seems like trading one of these two is the best way to go.

Pulock has 5 years left on a 6.15M deal and has a NTC, so will likely only waive to go to a contender. Dobson has no trade protection and is due a new contract after this season. I'd prefer to trade Pulock, but Dobson seems like the easier one to move. What can your team offer for one of these top 4 RHD?

Something in the realm of:

To NYI: Laine + Calgary 1st/or Struble +/or Mailloux
To MTL: Dobson

Boeser (extended) and Soucy for Dobson and Engvall
We don’t need Soucy. I imagine a deal from Vancouver starts with an extended Boeser though.

Didn’t Laine get benched a couple of days ago? I don’t think he carries a ton of value right now, especially with one year remaining on his contract

The New York Islanders

...so just stating he's a 3rd Pairing LD is not true...thanks for the clarification... :thumbu:

Offering him to a team with 2 better LD options who are either under team control or signed long term really doesn’t help you push him in deals. He’s still a 3LD in this trade situation and not better then either Pelech or Romanov.

I have a feeling that there are still tensions in Vancouvers locker room. Many players are pissed that Miller was traded and probably have ill feelings toward Pettersson. I don't believe that Pettersson is off the table. Clean slate.

Dach or Laine would be the forwards that could potentially be available for Dobson on Montreal's end.

I can't see Caufield, Suzuki, Demidov, or Slaf being moved for Dobson.

Laine getting benched doesn't mean he won't be a good top six forward. He's still coming back from a long layoff. As a Habs fan, I'm still looking forward to seeing Laine and Dach at their best, in time, and hopefully with Demidov next year. But if HuGo think Dobson can be a top pair dman again, I'm willing to sacrifice them. That's how I see it.

Trying to imagine what a Vancouver offer even looks like. Gotta think Petterson is unavailable at this point… maybe something like a signed Boeser + Raty + a first?

Byfield
Could see Vancouver do that but would be super weird because what they really need is top 6 forward(s) and they have Wallinder on the way.

Quinn Hughes to NYI for Pierre Engvall, Scott Mayfield and Oliver Wahlstrom's highlight video from when he was 9.

I think Dach or Laine would need to come with a +++. I can see something around Dach as the isles could be in need of a C next season, but it’ll involve adding something you probably really don’t want to.

Honestly any trade for Dobson doesn’t make a ton of sense to me from Vancouver’s POV for exactly that reason. I guess there’s no reason to rush Wallinder and there’s no guarantee he’ll stick… still having two guys on long term contracts in front of him feels odd

I'm an IB believer but it's hard for me to try and come up with what a possible package from MTL would look like. My guess is that a signed Evans would replace Matheson there. We could afford it this year by putting Barzal on LTIR

Yeah, he seems like potentially a good match... would be weird to make such a huge trade within the division though
Don’t have problem switching Matheson for Evans.
