Thought that may be the case, but figured I'd check the temperature on what it'd maybe take to acquire him!
To put it another way, our current 2C is colton sissons which should be a 3C or 4C on a contender. You take ROR he becomes our 1C and then the rest of our center group is waiver wire fodder, prospects, and reclamation projects

I thought Barry Trotz made him available at last years draft to move into the top 10?
honestly have no idea I am just curious. I think Nashville is playing better than trotz expected, so if that was the case at last year's draft, it would make sense. But not sure if giving up saros really helps the rebuild process unless someone grossly overpays, no?

Not happening. He's Nashville only useful center. Would take beyond an amazing overpay
If someone comes along and gives us a significant offer for orielly you have to deal him no matter if he is our only good center. Nyquist and shenn too. Constantly flirting with the last wild card spot just to get curb stomped in the first round when we do make the playoffs isn’t good. What so the owners get a round of playoff revenue but the team is never really a true Stanley cup contender. This team is in need of a true rebuild. The retool that we have doing for years have only solidified us in the mushy middle just to be a punching bag in the 1st round . A warm up series before they have to play a true contender. Saros has to be traded to as well . Keeping him only keeps us in the mushy middle. And anyone that has been watching saros over the years knows he will get hot and win games a team has no business of winning and maybe pushing us into that 8th spot just confirm that we don’t have the forward depth to actually compete. Plus drafting askarov and passing on some pretty solid forwards(lundell, Jarvis, Mercer) to name a few, when we lacked forward depth should have solidified saros’s future with the team. This isn’t a young team and only has 2 players who are younger than 24 on this team right now. So the mirage of us being a young team is way over exaggerated. The responds in this thread shouldn’t be oreilly is unavailable it should be what would you give me for him?

Any player should be available for the right cost. That said, the cost for the 1st line center for a team that center core consist of a 1C, 3C, depth Cs, to a gm and ownership group that doesnt want drag down rebuilds is probably extremely high.

Prospect with 1C potential is the return i want -

Yeah, there is zero chance that O'Reilly would be traded. He is considered The Leader of the team and they made a ton of moves (including holding all those retention/buyout $$$ from Duchene and Johansen) to accommodate adding him. He might as well have a full NMC, he is Trotz's man and isn't going anywhere.

is saros honestly available though?
Not really. People say "Trotz is listening", but the reality is that the magnitude of offer it would take for the Preds to move Saros is far above the threshold of what the goaltending market ever has or ever will bear. It would take a magnitude of precedent-setting "overpayment" that is just too unrealistic for it to happen.

What happened to Novak?
At the start of the season, it looked like he was picking right up where he left off last season. Then he got hurt. And he really hasn't been quite the same since he came back. We'll see if it was basically a year worth of flash-in-the-pan or if he can get back on track. He had been trending as a pretty good 2nd offensive center before this little bump in the road. But since he's old enough to qualify as a UFA this summer, it's hard to say what his contract should look like, and he has been playing for peanuts for a lot of years even going back to his time in the minors. Things are kind of up in the air with him. But I think if all goes well, we're still only looking at him as one of those kind of soft-minutes 2nd-unit producers, maybe in the 50-60 point range, so that's not a guy that challenges what O'Reilly does for the team.

Can we have him and Schenn back? Miss them.
Well you can have Schenn for sure. Any Preds fan will personally drive him not just to the airport but heck, all the way to Toronto if you really want.

I would for sure give 1st Avs 2024, always like the player.... but pretty sure hes not on the market
I´m pretty sure he doesnt want to play for us ever again either......

And no, O´Reilly is going nowhere this year. Its year 1 of this contract with Nashville and he is considered to be a leader there.
