Miller is terrible goalie. As bad as the Canucks defence was he was worse... Would let in a soft goal every game. He will never be a starter again.

Yeah a soft goal here and there but he is not a terrible goalie. All them years he carried the Sabres was constantly the best player on the ice for the Sabres every night he played. But one thing for sure he is nothing like he was with the Sabres. I hope maybe one day he will return to be a back up or complete with Lenher.

My thoughts are..... He's going to get a next contract. With the amount of good goaltending in this league unless someone has a youngster and thinks they need a vet as a backup he may not have a next contract.

As much as I hated the Miller signing, he played alright some nights for the Canucks this past season.

He's likely got a year or two left as a mediocre-to-decent starter behind a solid D after his current contract is up.

If Demko continues to show he's one of the best a goalies not in the NHL this year in the AHL, well Miller is as good as gone when his contract is up. I wouldn't be surprised though if he ends up in Vegas.

Demko is one to three years away from a backup NHL position. He will be a good goalie but should not be pushed. Markstrom is borderline ready to take on the starting goalie position.

The smartest thing the Canucks can do is resign Miller for another year after his contract ends. If Markstrom proves ready all it costs the Canucks is the difference between Miller's salary and the salary of whom ever they would have used as Markstrom's backup for that one year. If Markstrom falters or is injured the Canucks have a capable replacement starter in Miller.

Miller has stated he wants to play on a Pacific Division team due to his wife's career.

Miller has looked pretty good behind a depleted club. He stayed composed even though the Canucks were having an awful season. He never gave up or quit trying. This has to be attractive to somebody. Personally, I feel the Canucks will extend his contract another three years and give the Sedins two because they feel like they are a hundred point team that can do damage in the playoffs.

With the condensed goaltending equipment next year, I'd say he'd be lucky to land a back-up role at $1m a season or less....despite all his protesting, I figure he's one of those goalies who'll really be impacted by the skinnier equipment.

You really get ridiculed around here for giving your opinion. Seems to hurt people's feelings.

Why would you think anyone's feelings are hurt!

The guy promotes himself as "Lord of HFBOARDS"

... and handed down a 3-word decree on this matter.

Grow a sense of humour there bubs!

Which part?

from what term & salary you think the Av's would only consider paying Miller, I gather you think Miller is washed up & he would be jumping at the chance to extend his career even though he would have to take a huge pay cut plus have to move farther away from the cities his wife works in.

I think you are going to be badly surprised when Miller turned down such an offer and that there will be a number of teams, including the Canucks offering a much higher salary, a longer term and a share of the starting goalie position.

Miller and Luongo are the league's oldest goalies and reports on both lately indicate they are adapting to age and league changes quite well. With the Canucks vastly improved defense this season both of Vancouver's goalies should have a much better season this year. I could see the Canucks offering to extend Miller's contract for another 2 to 3 years at a salary around $3.5 to $4.5 million per year.

Our defense is vastly improved? By swapping Hamhuis for Gudbranson and Bartowski for Larsen we are vastly improved? If we are lucky we treaded water.

Bart was terrible so just losing him period is an upgrade, Hamhuis is too old and not nearly as effective as he was before. So yah.

Lol great, you can have him. I see him as more of a JS Giguere as his career comes to a close, but cheers to your optimism

Markstrom will be pencelled in as the Canucks #1 goalie, but if he flounders or gets injured, the Canucks have no backup that I would trust to handle that position for more than a game or two. Until Demko develops to the stage of a solid NHL backup the Canucks need a veteran goalie to back Markstrom up. There are not too many veteran goalies around that would be better than Miller if needed to take over for any length of time.

Yet is still much more effective than Gudbranson...

I was a terrific fan of Hamhuis, but no Gudbranson is a far a more useful player top the Canucks. The team's defense last year wasn't all that bad had they not been asked over & over again to play well beyond their experience & skill level due to injuries, but the defense eventually showed that the defense was too small and slow to play in the Pacific Division The defense now is faster and bigger than what was fielded last season and cross your fingers the defense will be able to play on pairings suitable to their experience and skill level

Larsen is an absolute unknown, he could very well be worse than Bartowski. Hamhuis being worse now than he was previously doesn't necessarily make him worse than Gudbranson either. Even if you are right on both counts it doesn't mean we "vastly" improved our defense. At absolute best we marginally improved our defense.

You seem to like to think of all the negative things the could wrong. Just a few more weeks before training camp opens. Time to stock pile those wooden rails and buckets of tar an feathers.

Note to Vancouver seagulls. Keep a careful watch out for PM. There is nothing worse than watching a bunch of naked seagulls trying to escape south early.:naughty:  :D
