He's not going to get the 6 million he currently makes but I have to believe he has enough left in him to get 1 more contract after this season it won't be a big one but he will get one as long as he doesn't suffer an injury that absolutely kills his season

Would 2 years 2.5 million per be to much for him or is he looking at even less?

I know there will be a lot of goalies looking for work with the expansion draft but I think he gets a spot somewhere

I think it would be very unlikely he gets a 2 year deal. At 37 no team is really going to want him as a starter. Unless some team is very desperate, he's going to be a backup. I think 2.5m would be on the high end of hwat he'd get.

Or he might just retire, not having a stable home might not be worth 2m or so to him.

He had a really good season last year and i didnt like him at the start of the year. We tried to deny it but he played as good as Marky. Must be mentioned we had the WORST d in the league last year icing guys like Barkowski Weber Hamhuis Pedan and guys like Sbisa forced into #3 spots when injuries piled up. Brutal d just brutal and Miller played really well

I dont think hes done and if he plays that good again with hopefully a better d this year he may get another good contract the next year like $4 mill

True, but the love of the game might be enough.

Would love him in Pitt he'd be perfect. Fleury is undoubtedly gone one way or the other after this season, and Miller would be a great backup and mentor for Murray. How ever many years he wants 2 million ish

I wish people would stop with this "mentoring" crap. Miller's not going to mentor bloody anybody. He's competing for the job with them.

As for where does he go...who needs a backup?

With how some goalies these days are being phased out of the league, even when they're not all that bad yet and how obsolete some have become, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get just a one year deal or no deal at all.

It's funny that Ryan Miller is the second oldest goaltender in the league right now, assuming that Backstrom is finished and never plays again. I'd be shocked if Backstrom did play in the NHL again, I think it's all but guaranteed that he won't.

Luongo is the last goaltender to be born in the 70's. It's kind of strange when less than two years ago, Brodeur (72) and Nabokov (75) were in the league. And just 3 years ago, both of those guys and Tim Thomas (74) were in the league. Just 3 years we had 3 active goaltenders born in the early and mid 70's and now we have just one left that was born in the 70's and all, and in the last year of the 70's at that. Even Dwayne Roloson (born in 69) was still in the league less than 5 years ago.

This also smells like another sidewall tire plug job signing in goal for Dallas, if Nill doesn't get a goalie upgrade in the meantime, and the Finished Finns wind up torpedoing their team in the playoffs once again.

Maybe the Vegas expansion team signs him? As sad as it is, he'd be the best UFA goaltender on the market this coming year, I'm working under the assumption that Bishop will not be on the UFA market.

Miller is terrible goalie. As bad as the Canucks defence was he was worse... Would let in a soft goal every game. He will never be a starter again.

Miller is still a passable starter but I get the sense that he'll probably just settle with his family after this season unless Benning wants to give him one final year at a cheap salary.

I don't think he'll ever be a starter again either.

I don't think he's terrible, however, he certainly isn't all that great either. I don't believe he was ever all that great. I think he's probably one of the more overrated goaltenders of the past decade. It's amazing the kind of reputation that 09-10 season and Olympic run built for him. He still carries this reputation today. I remember in the 2015 playoffs, Roenick saying ''Miller is an elite goaltender''. If the 2015 Ryan Miller was an elite goaltender, there's maybe 10 starting goaltenders (at most) that weren't also elite.

I always found him to be extremely average. He's had just only one season in his entire career where he's even broke .920 on the season. That 09-10 season, when he won the Vezina and Olympic MVP. He was over .920 with Buffalo during the 13-14 season, then played less than mediocre when he got sent to the Blues and the percentages evened out to the .915-.916 goaltender that he usually is. He's also mentally fragile and gets rattled very easily.

Goaltending wasn't the Canucks problem last year, both goalies were average/above average. To be fair, Miller was better than he was with the season before last.

and did a damned fine job on long island.

i always thought that miller was over rated. he and luongo. i never saw anything in either one of them. detroit fans were ranting and raving over jimmy howard just a few years ago........i never saw anything special in him and now a lot of detroit fans want him gone.

i dont know the man personally so i dont know what hes looking for. but i dont see anyone offering him a starters job.

Roloson did a good job until that last season with Tampa Bay, he completely fell apart. I was an Yzerman doubter in the beginning of his tenure, although I certainly am not anymore. But one of my critique's was not re-signing Roloson (he deserved to be re-signed after that ECF run) but signing Garon to be his backup. Garon was a meh backup, and then had to be the starter because Roloson completely fell apart. Garon didn't play any worse that year than he normally did, he played the same as he did for most of his career. And the way he played for most of his career was not good enough to be a safety net for a 42 year old goaltender that could (and did) break down at any moment.

I disagree on Luongo, I think he's a lot better than Miller. I understand people question his playoff reputation but I think he and Lundqvist are the best goaltenders there have been since the 04-05 lockout. Luongo has probably been the best or at least most consistent going back to 02-03 or so. Obviously there's other guys that have passed him in the past few years, but none of them have been around as long as he has.

Howard was good, up until about 3 years ago. He's been ****ing awful the last 3 years. A lot of Detroit fans say it's because ''Our defense is terrible'' but if Howard sucks because their defense is so terrible, why has Mrazek looked good the last 2 years there? I'm guessing that the correct answer would be because Howard sucks. Their head coach showed how much of a novice he was, when he played Howard the last few games of the season AND started him for the first two playoff games. Howard also coughed up a few hairballs against Boston in one of the last games of the season. If Boston didn't come out and lay an egg against Ottawa on the last day of the season, Boston would have had more points and thus eliminated Detroit from the playoffs, right after beating the hell out of them with Howard the game before that. All Boston needed was an OT loss that day and they finish with one more point than Detroit. And that loss with Howard would have really hurt.

True, but the love of the game might be enough.

Not sure if it's enough or not considering he would likely put his family first. It's the reason he signed out West anyways, and he would only ever want to be traded to a team far out West if he had to choose.

His options may be limited if he has these kind of family restrictions he wants to keep true to.

Bring him in to back up Lehner...wait for personalities to clash. Lehner beats the holy hell out of Miller...ehhh we sold jerseys for the sake of bringing Miller back...I'm entertained regardless.

The Hurricanes are another team that makes sense.

They just re-signed Ward for 2 more years, and he's failed to break past the 91% barrier for 4 years now. It's unlikely he'll be doing it this year and even if he does, it's probably a fluke and won't be continuing or the norm from here on out.

I can see them signing Miller, if Lack completes his trajectory towards becoming the next Ben Scrivens and they think they can make the playoffs in 17-18 and want to let their goalie prospect (can't recall the name of the one that's supposed to be really good) simmer for another year.

If Miller stays at a .915 pace this year, hoping for a .915 Miller in 17-18 and a Miller/Ward tandem might be better than a Ward/Lack tandem or a Ward splitting time with a guy they wanna let cook for another year, for when Ward is (hopefully) put out to pasture by them and Miller would obviously be gone.

Now people have mentioned that he doesn't wanna play anywhere other than the west coast for family reasons, but what are really his options after this season? You either play where you're needed or you don't play at all. Anaheim probably won't want him, he'd be Gibson's backup. LAK? Quick plays like 68-70 games a year. Jones will likely be a 65 game goalie in San Jose for the foreseeable future. But as has been said, Benning might pull a Benning and re-sign him. And there's always the Vegas option, as I already previously mentioned.

If Demko continues to show he's one of the best a goalies not in the NHL this year in the AHL, well Miller is as good as gone when his contract is up. I wouldn't be surprised though if he ends up in Vegas.

Dallas isn't interested, and Mason, Elliott, and Neuvirth are much better free agent options.

Uhhh no, do you even watch the Canucks? You seem to make a lot of completely baseless comments.
