Definitely glad we didn't expose him to Seattle.

Still think it had to be considered but JBB was smart not to get "too smart" and let such a pillar of stability on our backend we taken away. Maybe they never considered it but I did because of his age / contract along with Serg up and coming behind him...but the team has actually managed our D amazingly.

I predict McDonagh throws himself in front of a minimum of 3 sure fire goals this series.

I've been in NYC a few years now, and I love the lingering love for McD. Callahan too.
They are such hardworking players that anyone would want on their team. Callahan was great, but McD is an especially important and rare player in today's NHL. We got robbed on the McDonagh trade just like how we robbed Montreal when we first got him for Gomez (lol).

He had his share of mistakes last night but he tried leading from the back at least. The rest were turnover machines.
Agree. But whole D players were bad, even Hedman wasnt himself. Mac wasnt great but he tried to be helpfull by his agrressivness.Tried to light up D players.

Best trade in franchise history?
There are a few contenders for that. Depends if it can be a draft pick trade. I mean, we did trade a 3rd for Brayden Point... and Kyle Quincy for Andrei Vasilevskiy...

This one is up there though. Especially considering we got JT Miller for a few minutes in the deal, which helped recoup some of the losses.

There are a ton. Cross for Modin. A 5th for Boyle. The Khabibulin trade was very similar. Just really depends on the scoring rubric for what you consider the best I guess

The McDonagh trade really might be #1 though. Key player on two cup teams, now on another deep run... best Dman on last year's team with Hedman injured... All for, if memory serves, a couple of 1sts (one of which we got back) and a couple of players who likely couldn't make our roster full time right now.

In all honesty I don't even see the problem with his contract. Worth every penny, IMO.

Yes, I think how long he's made his impact for puts him at the top. If the lockout doesn't happen and Khabibulin sticks around, maybe we are talking about a different Bolts dynasty. However that was a one and done kind of thing where as McDonagh has been doing this for quite some time now. Hedman is not the Hedman that we know today unless some of those tough minutes went to someone else. He's also had a major role in helping to ween Cernak, Sergachev, and Foote along.

Likely his worst game as a Lightning. Oof.

I thought McD was the only D who wasn't a complete disaster with the puck in Game 1, and then he does what he did on his first shift tonight - and then made the bad pinch that set the Avs up for the 2-0 goal later - and completely made me eat those words. Tirefire performance by him that set the tone for a tirefire performance by everybody.

Hard to single anyone out in that thrashing, but it’s obvious our entire LD is hurting pretty bad. McD especially has been looking tired.
