He's on IR rn. I think there has been a worry about his interest but I think his size and skating makes that look worse than it often is. Is he done and washed up? No. Would you want to pay him 8M for five more years? Hell no.

If he played in the regular season like he does in the playoffs I could see him being worth it.

He got paid. I don’t really think he ever cared about winning or being a professional. He has seemed to get slower and more reluctant to shoot as time progresses. Not sure how he has fell off at his age other than the work he use to put in to getting that big contract, he just doesn’t anymore. ive heard stories from CBJ folks and have personally seen johansen out at Broadway bars 3 different times. I by no means frequent Broadway either.

I would love to have him on my team as #2/3C center for around $4M per. He's not a bad player by an stretch. It's just the $8M that is completely unrealistic for the player he has settled into being.

He was a legit #1C under Lavy but has looked awful with Hynes. He's still in his prime and I believe with another coach, he could still be that legit #1C.

Right now, he's not worth his $8 mil contract but then again right now only a handful of players on our team right now are worth their contracts.

Makes more sense than questioning his “heart”

Yeah, I just think his performances starting to drop long before Hynes arrival and his injury history isnt all that complicated. TBH I think Lavis system killed all of his offensive creativity and now he's struggeling to find it again.

He has never been a legit 1C under any coach on Columbus or Nashville. His best year in 13-14 he had 33G and 30asst. Yes yes the next year he had 71 points but the 30-30 club is where he needs to be. Honestly he needs to be in the 30-40 club. Since 14-15 he has not broken 20 goals or 70 points. In 18-19 there were 31 centers that had 70 points or more there were 15 that had 80 points that year as well and Johansen is paid at that level.

We have very low standards and expectations in Nashville for a 1c.

But what I find weird is that his production peaked at the age of 20-21. I mean, just having 6 years more of NHL expereince should give you a 10 point advantage to the younger version of you.

60-65 points in Nashville, 75-80 points in a normal team.
He's hit 60 pts 2 of the 3 full seasons he's been here. The 3rd was the President's Trophy team, when he only hit 54 pts.

Then there was the COVID shortened, mid-season coach swap, disaster season last year. But it doesn't make sense to lay that all on Johansen as Arvidsson, Forsberg, Duchene, Turris, and Granlund all slumped as well.
