Diving is rarely called, it’s embellishment that they call most often. If they think there was no infraction and someone dives, they’ll call the dive only. You can have embellishment without and infraction and that’s normally what happens

It’s in the title, “embellishment” - an exaggerated reaction to the foul committed against you. Which opens the door to big swings in various referee’s interpretation of what is considered an exaggerated reaction. Some are well deserved, while others seem completely ridiculous to call an embellishment.
What I’d like to see is penalties given for actually flopping and trying to buy a call when no real foul was committed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a call for embellishment where it was the only penalty called. The actual penalty given is for “unsportsmanlike conduct”, which should also include any outright flops.

Players don’t want this stuff. Centres can pretty much drive their opponents’ head into the ice on almost every draw if they choose. It’s just not something guys do, because it’s so dirty.

Feel like this should be a massive suspension but the league is such a joke that it will probably be something totally inadequate like 5 or 6 games. Hoping they get this right though, its complete garbage.

Suspend him the rest of the season. No place in hockey for this. This wasnt a hockey play or anything that can construed as an accident, this was 100% on purpose and the only purpose was to hurt him. Anything less than a rest of the season suspension would be too light.

Nah. Hartsy wanted to push Stützle down, Stützle wanted to dive. Both combined their forces and the movement going into the same direction led to the hard impact.
Unfortunate for both but luckily not with any serious results.
The Sens would‘ve won either way and Hartman for sure needs to rest.

Give him a game even though I doubt he was intending to hurt the guy, but the NHL allows guys like Stutzle to play in the league so you have to adjust and govern yourself accordingly.

When a match penalty is called, most play by play guys will say “yeah you can’t do that…”
