You're right. A two week break for the All-Stars is about 8 games missed so it's like he got 18 games in time and money lost.

Nope. It doesn’t matter how many days a suspension lasts, the lost salary is calculated based on the number of games.

Non repeat offenders lose one day of salary for each game. With 192 days this season that’s 1/192th of their salary for each game.

Repeat offenders lose 1/82nd of their salary for each game suspended.

Edit: for clarity the lost salary amount is based on the players contract AAV (Average Annual Value). Not the specific salary/bonuses for the season of the contract in which the suspension occurred.

So, $487,804.88 of his gross salary. That's a crapload of money.

Really not surprising

The Oilers played the Wild three times. He slewfooted Draisaitl, which does have potential to injure the head, and he also hit Bouchard's head into the net, which did injure Bouchard. The league didn't suspend in either case because it was extremely "accidentally on purpose" so you couldnt be 100% certain it was intentional, although the slewfoot definitely was. This is what you get when you don't take discipline seriously. Guys like Hartman get bolder and will escalate.

Are the salary counted from start and end of Regular season?
Yes, They have a 180 day or so season and they pay the players per day they are on the 23 man roster.

It's really pathetic to complain about the Bouchard play. Players jockey for position all the time before getting to the puck. Bouchard looked like an idiot that didn't realize hockey is a contact sport.

The question I’m wondering is how many games would he get if it was against a random 30 year old 3rd or 4th line player?

pretty crazy because in real life it would be prison time
Whatever.. McDavid would also be in prison in real life for crosschecking in the face area.
Zadorov+Soucy combo assault on McDavid in playoffs would have been worse
Bottom line no neck was broken and 'assaults attempting to injure' are common in NHL

No it was pathetic to push Bouchard intentionally into the metal net. Jockeying for pucks with physicality is fine. Hartman hits players all the time, which is fine, but it proves he is an expert at the timing of hits and the aftermath. He also has a history as a dirty player. He knew what he was doing. This is not unlike Cooke who had a lot of plays like that. "Whoops! How'd that happen? What bad luck"

So not only do you not know what a slew foot is, you are crying about Bouchard being pushed towards the net. Maybe the Oilers should wear pink jerseys so the other players know they aren't allowed to touch them

Cap hit and not actual salary?

Seems odd.

Makes a lot of sense. Cap hit (AAV) is simply the average annual salary of the multi-year contract.

Imagine a player who has a $6m AAV contract paying him $8m in year 1 and $4m in the final year. If they didn’t use the average value then any suspension would cost twice as much in year 1 of the contract as it would in the final year.
