Prospect Info: Ryan Greene 2rd 57th overall Green Bay (Ushl)

Greene is signing his ELC, curious if he gets any NHL time next year.

Without a doubt. In fact, in Powers article he said he's heard the Hawks brass believes Greene is another one who they feel won't need much AHL time if at all.

The Blackhawks drafted Greene, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound center, in the second round in 2022. They envisioned him as a reliable, two-way center who could play in a top-nine role. He’s been that throughout much of his college career, and the Blackhawks believe he might not need any development time in the AHL. They’re penciling him into next season’s lineup.

yeah I could see something like this:

Lardis-Bedard-Teravainen
Moore-Nazar-Mikheyev
Bertuzzi-Greene-Jeannot
Slaggert-Dickinson-Foligno
Veleno

I think you still try and bring in a vet like Marchand in case any of those kids (Lardis, Moore, Greene) need more seasoning.
This team is probably in the McKenna race but is competitive, which I'm okay with...If I was forced to sign a UFA to get to the floor I'd probably just give Donato a 2 year deal for 6 per to get to the floor, skip the Boeser/Ehler/Bennett types that will get 8-9 per with term

Definitely in the McKenna race, but you're giving more spots to young guys so there's progress. (especially on the backend)

We'll see what happens with Donato. He's definitely big timing the Hawks, but I could see the market being dryer than he expects, and then he comes crawling back.

For sure skip the Boeser/Ehler types.

Donato is gonna look for term. This is his one shot at a big payday considering this might be the only time he ever puts up 60 points.

It sounds like a Stan Bowman move to overpay him to me. I think Davidson is making a plan for life after him.

yes Donato will want term at 29 years of age with his 5th club already...it so happens that is a UFA after his best year in the NHL by a country mile. Doubled his previous best output..

He is going to get paid however I do think he knows that other terms would be weary of Term for a guy like him.

He and his wife really felt comfortable and happy to be in chicago so it is possible that they want to stay and he gets $$ & term that both parties are okay with...

nothing over 3-4 years on TERM from my perspective.

It's near impossible to project where the Hawks will end up in the standings (draft position) when we don't know who - or if - KD signs over the summer - will it be a game changer like Marner or just another journeyman like Bertuzzi or Dickenson.

The thing I hang my hat on is regardless where they end up in the standings next season - there will be a continuation of real progress made in the rebuild process by the young players gaining experience and growing their games - be it at the NHL level or AHL level or playing NCAA - they will all gain experience and be just that more close to stepping into a role in the rebuilt team. Three players in particular are primed to take big strides next season - Nazar, Rinzel and Levshunov.

Yes and No....I think the logical projection is the Hawks will not be landing any of the marquee (in as much as there are any beyond Marner) UFA's. Just to many teams that are already competing or way closer that will have money that most UFA's will be chosing elsewhere. Can we cobble something together like adding a Duchene or Tavares and have some internal growth and be better....probably. I will be shocked if Davidson can get anything significant done in free agency in which case we are left with 1 D above 23 (and the growing pains that will come with that) and playing 4 or 5 kids at F with under 50 NHL games. Until we actually land a significant piece or 2 in free agency or trade, I am not seeing the Hawks as anything but a bottom 5 team in the league next year plus or minus 3 or 4 spots.

I agree - I think landing Marner is very unlikely and most likely we will end up in the bottom 2 or 3 again - and I'm OK with that - because - we have now begun to see the future in the Hawks lineup and there is much to be optimistic about. It may take another year or two to start rising in the standings but as long as the young players are getting into the lineup and progressing - we're on the right track and more patience is not only called for but more tolerable.

Add Misa next season and Boisvert the year after. The squad is filling up with exciting young prospects.

From what I am hearing, Greene is a bigger, tougher version of Ryan Donato (though I'm not sure he has that nose for the net or the tenacity, or the good shot). I hear Greene is versatile, good size and a solid PKer.... and can be mean.

As a center, think a less physical but faster Tommy Lysiak. Stylistically at least. And not prone to being pissed off if kicked out of the face-off dot.

Literally didn't notice him today, pretty par for course based on what I saw at BU. Third line centre when we're contending would be his ceiling, imo. FIts the part of an NHL player but I don't see much offense in him

He had a scoring chance on his first or second shift, and then yeah I never noticed him again for the rest of the game

Donato and Lysiak are/were pretty physical......not sure I see Greene as physical as those guys......I just think he is the Dickinson heir apparent.
