Erskine had been playing as a #3/4 for them through the regular season, and had actually been doing really well. He came "back to earth" during that series
I agree that the team, and Cally, desperately miss Dubinsky. He was the perfect winger for Cally. That said, I disagree on the notion that the team is outchanced, and if they are, I suggest taking a look at the competition he's facing. Torts always, always, puts his line out against the teams #1. He played nearly every shift against OV's line in the past round, and that line's forechecking and cycling was a large part of why Ovechkin was kept off the scoreboard. Cally may not have lit up the offense in that series, but he had more than a positive impact on it.
That issue isn't with Cally. That's with Torts and Sather. You don't blame the tool when the user makes a mistake.
Laich and Horcoff are still very good players. Zubie had 2 really good seasons, and never scratched that again. He got slow.
I agree with most of your list, but look at those names. Those are some god damn good names to have on your hockey club.
I think you have unrealistic expectations for a Top 9 (like, Pittsburgh unrealistic), and I don't think a team needs to be that stacked to win
Hes a versatile player. I don't know why you're holding that against him.
And if he has a single goal tomorrow, he'll be tied for 2nd on the team, along with our new #1 center. 8 games is a tiny sample size. One hot streak and he goes from goat to hero. It's a bloody joke the way we use revisionist mentality based on point totals.
Jagr at this stage of his career brings Callahan's impact? Chris "lazy" Stewart?
Selanne, Kessel? Those are threats for 35+ goals a season, as is Iginla. Oshie is a good comparison, NOT Jagr, and not Kessel.
Callahan is an excellent, two way player but he's overrated by a lot of Rangers fans. He's really just an average playoff guy. Nothing more.
Wow........ Callahan can play on my team any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
I can't imagine a team in the league that wouldn't want him on the ice in the playoffs.
Any team would love to add a 2nd line PKing forward to their lineup.
The other day you were saying how he wasn't good enough for that role and should be shipped out.![]()

I thought the Rangers needed to trade him because they'll be mediocre forever if they don't?
They'll be mediocre forever if they rely on him to play top 5 minutes league wide.
Tell me please, if not him, then who? Realistically, who are we going to give the toughest minutes on the team to? Nash? Stepan? Brassard? Those are all offensive players. Stepan gets by, but he's no means Selke caliber. Not every roster has a Toews or Bergeron, or even Datsyuk. Callahan is a winger, who can play any type of game, he's a gem, he single-handedly got us back in this game today. If we had better options, I wouldn't argue with you, but when we don't, why would you argue against it? We aren't the Pens, or Hawks, so what's the argument here? Be mad at Sather, not Callahan or Tortorella. Look at how he uses Boyle, that should tell you more about this inept roster rather than the coach or player. You steer the ship the best way you know how.
Kovalchuk isn't even the best PKing forward on his own team, let alone the entire league.

He was on the ice for 9 PPGA and tied for 1st in league in SH points with 4 points.
Last season, he was a + player on the PK. 5 SH points and on ice for only 4 PPGA. This while playing nearly 90 mins of PK time. Maybe not best, but clearly the most efficient PKer in the league.
Don't see blocking shots like Cally or Boyle
That's a testament to a player's defensive IQ to not flail around and block shots, but rather smoothly transition the puck up the ice. Like Kopitar, Kovalchuk, Zetterberg, Nielsen, etc. I don't get why more teams don't use their star players on the PK.
