Two reasons.

1. He doesn't play for a Canadian organization.

2. He isn't Canadian.

Are people going nuts over Connor Carrick who's playing for a Canadian team?

Edit: Perhaps it's the size of the fan base and that his playoffs, while very good... Aren't exceptional

Yeah, I know, that was my thinking. If the prospects on the Marlies were this good you'd never hear the end of it.

Re: Connor Carrick

Playoff leading scorer who played in one less round and is a defenseman

I was wondering why Carrick and the players I listed weren't getting more attention in general, not just Bjorkstrand. Other than two guys the top 10 scorers were all prospects, which seems unusual.

On Bjorkstrand in particular he clinched it with back to back OT winners, 6 GWG, and is possibly the youngest skater ever to win the MVP.

Bjorkstrand's got such a great nose for the net, soft hands, and a terrific release. I think he'll be a good top 6 winger for years to come. Very slippery and deceptive, would be surprised if he doesn't end up a 20+ goal scorer in the NHL.

Bjorkstrand has had quite the run on winning teams the past 5 years

2011-12: Wins ROTY & Finals MVP in Danish league en route to winning the Danish Cup
2012-13: Most goals & points by WHL rookie, WHL champion
2013-14: U20 WJC (D1A) Gold Medal & Best Forward honors, WHL playoffs leader in goals (16) and points (33)
2014-15: WHL Player of the Year, led league in goals, points, and +/-. Also carried the Danish WJC team to the quarterfinals alongside Ehlers.
2015-16: Calder Cup champion and MVP as a rookie.

That, plus he posted the highest Pts per 60 on the Jackets.

Kid knows where to be on the ice and how to score.

Still wondering how he dropped to 3rd round? Sure he was small and not very strong, but he produced well in Portland in his rookie season too. Was skating another issue back then or what?

skating was a bit of on issue yes and the fact he was on a stacked team made some people question if he was just a passenger or really that good

Portland's coach said he's never has as talented a guy as Bjorkstrand work so hard in the areas where he needed improvement.

"One less round" makes it sound impressive until you realize that's just 2 less games than Bjorkstrand had.

When you score 6 GWG to help your team set the AHL record for fewest losses in an entire playoffs, you limit the number of games you have to score points.

This guy knows

Do you need some cheese with that whine?

Marlies have far superior prospects than Bjorkstrand. Bjorkstrand is good but lets get real.

Prospects? Nylander and who? According to the prospect lists I've seen (most of them) it's just Nylander, and they're all from before Bjorkstrand became the youngest skater MVP in AHL history.

The best players on the Monsters were our prospects, so if the Marlies prospects are "far superior" you'd think the Monsters wouldn't have just swept the team that nearly swept the Marlies.

Bjorkstrand has demonstrated he is the most talented forward prospect currently in the AHL.

Eh, that's pushing it. Nylander and Rantanen are definitely better, maybe Vrana. Bjorkstrand is a better player now but he's 21, and those guys are a year or two younger.

And to think we wouldn't have gotten him had Jarmo not moved down in the 2nd to gain an additional pick..

What a great run. Loved watching the clips of the arena for the final game.

This kid is gonna be good. I can definitely see him being a 30G 60Pt guy with the potential to maybe score 50 with that shot (although that's a rarity in this NHL)

Hype has a lot to do, how prospect is seen

First of all, I see why Bjorkstand slide so long down in the draft.

With his scores, even in his first year, he could easily been a first round. If it was not for his size and that most saw him as a raw only goal score.
Personally I think that was misread.

But as a raw goal score, there are to many examples, that they fails in the bigger leagues.

I knew that Bjorkstand would probably build up and be something like a late to grow into a man. How? I saw his dad play and grow better and better. Where I saw a lot of other players fathers, well loose their advantages.

The hype part, well I never understood the hype on Filatov, Boeker or Eller. The hype con come from a lot of sources. Press, different leaders, nationalities. Where you live can even effect.

Where I live, we never use extreme words. We would never say he is extremely good. That mean it would mean, here, that he was bad, if did so. We would say he do quite OK, if we mean he is extreme good.
I live in a town of 50000, in the next town, same size. They would say about a guy, just OK, that he is super.

Now, two people call a scout.
town 1: We have a guy, he do quite OK (he is the best)
town 2: We have a guy, he is super good (he is just OK)
Now you sees how hype come, because in Toronto they are clearly like in town 2. So they are in Copenhagen Denmark.
Boedker, Eller, Tavaras etc comes from Copenhagen, Toronto and a like. Tavaras the new Sidney Crosby, wasn't he? He is good, but not that good...
In Herning, where Oliver comes, they will say that, He is doing quite OK.

So a lot about how high the ranking goes, has a lot to do with hype.

Take my word, Oliver Bjorkstand will become a star in NHL. Probably better than any of Torontos current prospect. He will grow better and better until 37 or so, if he follows his father template and I think he will. ;)

I also seem to remember a bit of hesitation that maybe Bjorkstrand was the product of his linemates / a strong Portland Winterhawks team. He was linemates with Ty Rattie and Nic Petan for a while.

Yes and Nic Petan do very well in the AHL, just the new light of his team.
Nic Petan C, 47, 9, 23, 32, -18
Ty Rattie W, 59, 21, 21, 42, 7
Bjork W, 51, 17, 12, 29, 0
Question is who is the responsibly one of the two and benefit who?
To these number you better add, that Nic probably player more minutes, than the 3Th line time Bjork started with.

It all about Hype. How many goals would Bjork score on the Canadian WCJ team in his draft year?
