RW Matvei Michkov (2023, 7th, PHI) Part 6

You can tell these bozos pushing the "Michkov is a mess defensively" narrative dont actually watch him play. He was fine defensively all season, especially for a rookie. They just take the handful of examples of Michkov taking calculated risks leaving the zone early that didnt work out and extrapolate that into a judgement on his entire game. What I saw from Michkov most of his rookie season was a winger that works to get the puck back when his team doesnt have it.
His work on the boards was impressive.

Hopefully he works on his height, maybe grow a couple of inches in the off season. He also needs to work on his skating badly. He needs to fix these 2 major flaws in his game, if not he will end up being nothing special.

Michkov was at #4. If he had been top 3, you would have the same article saying it is criminal that Wolf/Celebrini/Hutson was not nominated.

That's what happens in a tight 4 player race. There will be one left over. The Good thing is that the trophy doesn't matter one bit.

Yeah, the article is half good and half bad. Good because it says Michkov had a good season and is going to be a superstar - hard to argue with this. Bad, because actually nobody gives a f*** for Calder. Attention span of it is about season, maximum two. Ask hockey fans did McDavid win Calder, and 80% of them won't give you correct answer or any answer at all...

Matvei just needs to find himself a rack. That should do the job.

“navigate one of the most difficult languages on Earth, adjust to a different ice surface, culture, and system—all under the notoriously exacting (and at times unforgiving) eye of John Tortorella.”

Incredibly ignorant information not surprising tho. KHL rinks are the same as the NHL and despite what the author may have heard Michkov has used a toilet his whole life.

Of course he had no access to McDonalds for a couple of years ago which is actually a positive!😏

This was Torts plan in the off-season...
