RW Matvei Michkov (2023, 7th, PHI) Part 6

Kind of funny that after his 1st month his weirdo detractors were calling him a Powerplay merchant.

He finished with 18 ES goals and 28 ES Assists, so just 17 of his 63 points came on the PP.

Compare that with Celebrini who had 22 of his 63 points on the PP and Hutson with 26 of his 66 points on the PP.

Michkov finished as the rookie leader in ES points with 46.

This kid is going to be a top 10 player in the league during his prime, and as a Flyers fan, I absolutely can't believe he's ours.

I get why some casuals don't think he's as good as people say. Not the biggest, or fastest, doesn't have the dynamic playstyle of a Demidov but I genuinely believe he has the best offensive IQ and vision since Crosby. Always a step or 2 ahead of everyone, including his teammates.

No, they tried to do that at the ‘23 draft for the Habs 5OA pick that year. Nothing to do with Demidov.
True and in here Habs fans were claiming « sources » had Philly trading 7th, Gauthier and Foerster to land Michkov at 5. Ended up for free at 7. Was hell on Earth in here in Habs forum. Great read.

Next day Habs PR made sure narrative shifted to MM not wanting to play in Mtl.

He’s not going to win it because of Torts. Didn’t play enough, minutes per game and games and PP minutes.

Celebrini and Hutson had less restrictions. They’re all great players, but I think when all is said and done and Torts isn’t his coach every season that he’ll be the best player of the three.
He's not gonna win it because of Lane Hutson.

That's a good point. Flyers need to learn to play some defense. Which is why Torts was trying to make Michkov a complete player.... and failed.
He does have significant growth in the area, as most young guys do. Torts was obviously trying to get kids to buy into that, my point just had more to do with the offensive dessert comment. They were no juggernaut but probably scored more than some people realize

To me, an offensive dessert is a pumpkin pie. That's not a dessert.
