RW Matvei Michkov (2023, 7th, PHI) Part 6

Flyer fans can’t actually believe Michkov is or will be better than Celebrini. That’s crazy talk. What Celebrini is doing as an 18 year old blows away the tepid accomplishments of Michkov as a 19 year old. Celebrini is doing it on a far worse team as well.

In what world does Celebrini having less Goals, less Points, fewer Goals per 60 and Points per 60 blow away Michkov? I'm failing to understand how producing less = blowing away lol.

Both are having great rookie seasons. Newsflash for ya, the Flyers are terrible too. Michkov spent 3/4 of this season playing with tomato cans and on the leagues 2nd worst Powerplay...oh and with John f***ing Tortorella as his head coach.

Nah bro his -32 and insane usage are the reason he’s superior to Michkov, if Michkov had the same usage with absolutely no scratchings or benchings, surely he wouldn’t have 15+ more points.

I dont think the ice time argument is accurate. Pretty sure their KHL usage in D+1 has been similar, right down to the head coach dicking them around at times. Oh and Michkovs production is better (19 goals, 41 points in 49 games compared to 19 goals, 49 points in 65 for Demidov)
Demidov's khl average ice time d+1 : 13:45
ppg : 0.753

Michkov's khl average ice time d+1 : 17:02
ppg: 0.872

Demidov spent more than half the season on the 4th line, playing very little pp minutes.
Michkov spent almost all the season on the 1st line, playing a shit ton more pp minutes.

On top of that, Demidov is very sound defensively.

Thank you for that. I stand corrected.

What are expectations next year? PPG+?

All in all, a very respectable rookie season. It's clear that the talent of the roster and offensive philosophy of the coaching staff hurt his production, and that he could have reasonably scored 70 or more points on a team with average GF/G and a PP conversion rate higher than 3rd worst in the league. For all the criticism of being a PP merchant early on, his 43 even-strength points following his recent surge are good for T-45th in the league.

I think most would agree that straight-line speed is his biggest limitation right now, and I hope that he and the organization have comprehensive plan to address this in the offseason.

Doesn’t he lead the entire NHL in 5v5 points since the 4nations can’t remember 100%..Quite the PP merchant lol. Could easily see him put up 90 next year without Torts with or without skating improvement.

I think 85 points without a trade for a better C, with a better C he could push for 100 IMO.

Michkov still leads the Flyers in goals scored as a rookie, and Hutson has leeched so many points off top Montreal forwards...
Okay, this is abject foolishness.

The number of absolutely brilliant plays from Hutson that the garbage fire players on the Canadiens, from imbecilic defensive partners to the anemic forward core outside of Suzuki and Caulfield - is beyond belief. Every third shift, Hutson creates something out of nothing and someone flubs it.

Lol, I know exactly who I’m talking about. Some of your (very recent) takes lately:

•Michkov’s potential is levels above Demidov; Michkov will be a 100-120 point guy, Demidov will be a 70 point guy at best. Demidov is ridiculously overrated and will never be considered a star outside MTL.

•Suzuki is not a 1C.

•Matheson has been MTL’s best all around defenseman this season.

•Xhekaj is below replacement level; he’s a plug. “Might as well sign Ryan Reaves”. He’s a bigger Pezzetta as a defenseman.

•Reinbacher is a bust.

•Guhle is vastly overrated and has been for years.

•There is not a single player in MTL’s system who even projects as being at Matheson’s level, warts, deficiencies and all.

•Slafkovsky has no hockey sense.

•Dobes is an ECHL goalie.

•Wright is superior to Slafkovsky.

•Slafkovsky has a low hockey IQ.

•Slafkovsky has been playing well, but it’s doubtful that it continues because players don’t reinvent their games.

•Evans sucks, is overrated, and needs to be shipped out. His contract is a massive overpay on his talent.

•Slafkovsky is a lackadaisical floater, a “better Armia”, and a near-bust, which is precisely what he was always poised to become. He plays one good game per 60.

•Dach and Newhook are failures, they have no value whatsoever, not even to MTL.

•Montembeault is one of the best goaltenders in the league (and variations of this statement over and over). It’s only that the rest of the team sucks why idiots think he looks bad. Only idiots do not understand this.

These are all from just the last month and a half lmfao. Now, these takes are genuinely hilarious, so I honestly don’t mind reading them, but I seriously have to question how you are an actual Habs fan, and if you actually are (against all sound judgement on my part), WHY? - lmao, you hate the team and everyone on it (except for Montembeault for some reason, which in and of itself is hilarious just due to the sheer randomness of it compared to the rest of your takes about the team).

I hope people can forgive that the rest of this post apart from the Michkov bit is off topic due to the hilarious nature of these takes. It’s all in his post history if anyone doubts if these are real 😂
Yeah. Pretty much every one of those is absolutely accurate and objective fact, other than the point regarding Suzuki. Dang, I'm about 99/100. I guess I actually watch hockey games and care about stats, gameplay, and underlying numbers.

You can change the name to Michkov and this would be a perfect description of the first 3/4 of his season until he got paired with Konecny and Couturier in the last 10 games or so. It was maddening.

Yeah, both need a better supporting cast. Luchanko I honestly think will fit very well with Michkov in the future IF he reaches his potential. Would be good to have a speedy two-way playmaker with him to let him focus on offense.

Personally i'm hoping they come away from the 2025 with a more talented offensive Center to than Luchanko, who I think figures to be a 3C down the line. Not very high on his offensive skills, but he does have a very high Hockey IQ.

If he manages to get some help he can do 90+

Yeah, but assuming they stay where they are (7th) I think you're unfortunately left looking at the 2nd tier of centers. I imagine Misa, Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers will be gone by then (along with Schaefer and Martone). Would love to see Michkov get to play with one of those guys though.

You might want to look up what the word “objective” means because it’s clear you don’t have a clue 😂

Not so fast. Depending on who finishes top 6, they might avoid taking a C.
Buffalo took 3C in the first round in 22 plus a C again top pick 24.
Anaheim has young Cs Carlson, McTavish, Zegras.
Sea drafted Beniers, Wright, Catton.
Boston’s last 3 firsts were on C.

I could see teams taking wingers Eklund and McQueen before Desnoyers. Or dman Smith.
Remember Sennecke last draft.

Philly wasnt a bottom 5 team before March. Now with Boston in full-tank mode, they should pick around 7-8.

O’Brien at 9 according to McKenzie is not a major drop off from Desnoyers 6. Eight months younger than Hagens.

Hopefully hey keep drafting Cs with their 20ish picks. Nesbitt, Ryabkin, Cootes, Moore

If you're using points as the barometer, then it's only fair to provide context.

And Hutson doesn't play defense, so there's that.
You guys repeating this over and over isn’t going to make it true.

Also, talking about another player not playing defense in a thread about Michkov is hilarious.

Dude has 14 takeaways all season - he literally doesn’t even try, and is absolutely useless without the puck on his stick.

He avoids contact like the plague (Hutson has more hits than him 😂), and turns the puck over a crazy amount, despite the sheltered minutes he’s played all year.
